students-design-shoe-kate-middleton.pngUpdate 03/03: See which shoe Kate picked to win here!

Six excited students on the renowned Footwear Design degree course at De Montfort University are holding their breath waiting to hear which of them will be making shoes for Kate, Duchess of Cambridge after all submitted a sketch featuring their own idea for a shoe for Kate. And if that wasn't enough excitement to be getting on with, the Duchess herself will be arriving to pick out her favourite shoe when she visits the university next week!

The Duchess will meet the students and pick out one of the designs on 8 March, when she visits the De Montfort Campus in Leicester along with The Queen to mark the beginning of her Diamond Jubilee Tour of the UK. The lucky winner will then make up a pair of the shoes for the Duchess, and see the shoes they have designed and created worn by the future Queen of England - a flying start to their dream career!

The students, shortlisted by their lecturers from more than 100 applications are: Sam Sawkill, 27, Summer Spencer, 23, both from Leicester, and Kay Yeng Cheng, 22, from Hinckley, Leicestershire, Tabitha Duffield, from Maidstone, Kent, Becka Hunt, 20, from Peterborough and Mei Chun Lai, 21, from Taiwan.

Becka Hunt's shoes, pictured above, are influenced by some of the Duchess's signature wardrobe pieces: Becka said: "I am so honoured and excited to be given such an amazing opportunity. My design is inspired by 19th century fashions and based around the things Kate wears, her engagement ring and her style."

Summer said: "I wanted to reflect Kate's personality in my design and make it relate to her. My family are so proud and excited for me!"

We look forward to seeing which of the six designs Kate will pick, and will announce the results here when we get them! Good luck to all the students in this very exciting project.
