stuart-weitzman-million-dollar-shoes.jpgStuart Weitzman has been whipping up a storm every year at the Oscars for ten years now with his iconic Million Dollar Shoes: a new shoe created for every ceremony, gifted to one lucky Academy Award-nominated lady each time. This year, Weitzman is celebrating the anniversary of the tradition with a suitably extravagant new style, aptly name "The Millionairess".

Pictured above modeled by Natalia Vodianova, the 2012 edition is a delicate sandal made with Swarovski crystal straps with an elegant tear-drop detail at the front. It is available exclusively at Stuart Weitzman boutiques this month, currently on sale in the US for $595 (£375). The original "Million Dollar Shoe", which debuted at the Academy Awards in 2002, was adorned with 464 diamonds.

We can't yet reveal which Hollywood hopeful will be dressed in the sparkling shoes on Oscars night itself, but we certainly hope this year's shoes will fare better than the pair designed for Juno star Diablo Cody back in 2008: the screenwriter caused a stir when she shunned the Weitzman pair in favour of some gold flatties she'd chosen herself, claiming in her blog that she did not condone this type of extravagance. The resulting furure led to Weitzman putting his Million Dollar shoe project on ice for a year in 2010. Are you glad to see them back?
