ruth_wilson_olivier.jpgStars of the stage seem to like their heels high (and so their skirts, at this time of year at least!) so we were delighted to be able to shoe-spot at the Olivier Awards last night. From Vanessa Kirby's criss-cross straps to Kate Fleetwood's classic nude peep-toes, there was lots to admire - though we are happy to say that the pre-teen cast of Matilda were all wearing very suitable and proper flat ballet shoes...

Piquing our interest most of all, however, was Best Actress Ruth Wilson, who stunned the crowds in a black dress by McQ, possibly the hottest celebrity-loved label around just now. Her shoes were by Alexander McQueen's mainline label, and we loved them to bits: they were a pair of stunningly sculpted high Mary Janes from the forthcoming pre-Autumn/winter 2012 collection, decorated with a subtle blood red strap and matching demi platform. The heels have a delicate curve that's just beautiful, and brimming with 1920s glamour. She deserved to win for her choice of footwear alone, say we!
