metallic_heel.pngLet's talk metallic heels! We don't mean the pointy, pencil-shaped kind (although they're huge as well) but the dinky, mid-height heels that are going all shiny this season. For those who like the comfort of a lower heel but hate the 'granny' connotations the trend is a bit of a godsend, as have you noticed how the addition of a metallic edge gives shoes a far more chic and stylish appeal?

Here are two great examples of the look, which is appearing on everything from dolly shoes and ankle boots to sandals and pumps. We think they look particularly great on simple sandals like the styles we've picked out, as they transform shoes that would otherwise run the risk of looking rather mumsy into much more desirable pieces.

Pictured top left is the Stone sandal from Dorothy Perkins (£30 here in white or brown faux leather). Despite not being made from real leather, this shoe is a dream on the feet, and really comfortable: the little heel and matching rose gold-toned accents on the buckles and front strap glint in the sunlight and draw plenty of admiring glasses (I bought a pair in the DP sale last week and haven't looked back!) If these are a little plain for you, check out these colourful flatties with their shiny heels over at River Island:

A slightly more adventurous take on the look is Topshop's Reflect metallic heel sandal which is made from real leather and costs £60. We love the clean lines and generous straps used to make this shoe, which would be a laid-back yet glamorous choice for summer evenings.
