Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week: Jantaminiau's shoes
At the start of the year, Jantaminiau made the headlines for creating shoes that models were afraid to wear, and it looks like the eponymous Dutch designer Jan Taminiau is in no hurry to shake off that reputation for mind-bending footwear this season. On a day when Dior and Atelier Versace also presented, his shoes stood out, even by haute couture standards, and we were struck by their resemblance to some of the heel-free creations seen at Alexander McQueen et. al.
Key pieces from the collection included the blood red platform brogues pictured above - a far cry from the sensible punctured styles that have been popular this season. Their platforms looked more like horses' hooves than heels, finished off with a sharp metallic 'blade' at the back. Seen from behind, the blade gave the appearance of a gigantic stiletto heel; the 'hooves' themselves were covered in glittering gemstones.
Also appearing in the collection was a pair of striking white gold platform sandals, poised on the same equine heels as the red pair. Decorated with what appeared to be leaf gold embellishment, the sandals showed how the style could be adapted to a lighter, more genteel mood:
