There was a collective gasp around the worldwide shoe-loving community today, as reports from Jason Wu's spring/summer 2013 collection showcased at New York Fashion Week began to filter through. With beautiful pieces like this on display, can you really blame us for getting a little excited?

While the shoes themselves were basic pieces relying on simple design principles, Wu's show reminded us of the importance of legwear (although in this case the interest was created by making the shoes visible through semi-transparent tulle skirts) and how a shoe can really sing when combined with the right garments. Small pearl embellishments sat on the ankle straps: a detail that became more prominent when the skirts were removed.

The star-spangled skirts were an obvious highlight, but we were equally smitten with other footwear pieces that appeared throughout the show:

Here, the shoes were standalone pieces considered worthy to be worn on bare legs: we love the gemstone covered heel and the mesh uppers. Here, intrigue is created with the use of small spots and a pointed patent toe cap sitting on top of the mesh. This same effect was re-created elsewhere in the show with the use of front panelling attached spat-like to stiletto sandals.

A final visual treat was provided in the form of wild leopard print-backed heels, this time introducing white elements to the overall design. The paler leather brings out the pearl embellishments even more strongly, and adds to the collection's curiosity and eccentricity.

A really strong collection from one of our favourite NYC names.
