Alexander McQueen showcased some of the most inspirational work at all the fashion weeks put together for spring/summer 2013, but once again it was the shoes and accessories sent down the runway by Creative Director Sarah Burton that attracted the most attention and comment (see more from the show). Let's take a look at that footwear, which - once again - lacked heels:

But for what the shoes were missing in heels, they more than made up for in style. Honeycomb mesh provided a cool focal point at the top of the shoes while underneath we saw the familiar heelless silhouette. The look has become a trademark of McQueen catwalk shoes and this time extra interest was created by filling clear soles with shimmering topaz and jonquil pieces. This beautiful and fabulously expensive touch will be replaced with gold glitter in the ready-to-wear shoes...

The shoes, with their precious stone cargo, are just the sort of gorgeous creations that remind us why we fell for footwear so hard in the first place - and they were the perfect match for the mind-bending creations that made up the collection.
