Autumn is already well under way, but I've been hunting in vain for the perfect pair of brogues for quite some time, having searched high and low for a style that was stylish, comfortable and flattering to the leg (I'm not especially tall, so prefer to avoid flat shoes if possible, which cuts out quite a lot of the more popular brogues). Then I discovered the lovely two-tone boots pictured above, from the autumn/winter 2012 collection by US brand Sperry, now selling in the UK.

I hadn't heard of Sperry until this season, but their heeled 'Emory' Oxford boots (£120) have proven to be exactly what I needed: a tall brogue style that's every bit as easy to wear as a flat pump. They also look amazing worn with cable knit tights, which has quickly made them an autumn essential!

sperry brogue heels.jpgThe brogues are available in three colourways: all-over black, brown leather with olive green canvas, or chocolate brown suede. As well as looking great, these shoes are feats of  engineering in themselves, as they're equipped with a non-Marking rubber outer sole with razor cut wave-slits that have been optimised for perfect wet-dry traction. Or put in plain English, they're great for navigating the rainy perils of the British winter.

All styles in the Oxford Emory range are made with two materials in the upper: a softer fabric (canvas or suede) capped with leather, which makes them super practical. The addition of leather makes them remarkably hard-wearing, scuff-proof and weatherproof, while giving a cool menswear-inspired two tone effect. It also means they are enormously comfortable: I've been wearing the olive/brown mix; a canvas and leather combo, and they're extremely easy on the feet.
