Elegant slumming from House of Harlow 1960
Winter is a time of extremes in footwear terms. On the one hand we have towering party heels and gigantic platforms designed to attract maximum attention, and on the other we see the return of our most comfortable, slouchy shoes. There's a definite craving for shoes that we can slip into at the end of the day as we wind down with a glass of mulled wine, loose-fitting clothes and a DVD - but who says you can't do that in style? Certainly not Nicole Richie, whose beautiful Moccasin-style shoes have been a hit for several seasons now.
House of Harlow make some of our favourite flat, comfy and downright gorgeous shoes and a style that's high on our hit list for A/W 2012 is this tan and leopard print pull-on pump; a luxurious alternative to slippers and otehr less-than-glamorous styles. Speaking as someone who lives in an upstairs flat with lots of wooden floors, I've really got into flat, creeper-style footwear recently - and I know from experience that a pair of well-made house shoes beats a pair of tired-old slippers any day. But you can wear these beauties outside the house too - they look amazing with a pair of skinny jeans. Pick up a pair at Shopbop, where they are £123
