Once just a summer staple, now a shoe that can really make a statement, the sandal has really come of age in recent seasons: flatforms, clogs and gigantic wedges have all been hits at many designer labels recently, but sometimes, stripping the look back to basics can yield even more effective and stylish results.

Sandal lovers in and around London are in for a particular treat this summer, as a new label that celebrates their heritage and timeless style of sandals is going to be popping up in select stores around the city. The Sandal and the Craftsman brings the ancient art of sandal making to our streets, allowing you to enjoy the experience of having your own sandals made in front of you by one of the label's expert artisans.

The collection consists of three styles, all based on traditional Italian sandals with an urban cool edge, echoing the current fashion obsession with clean-lined, fuss-free simplicity. This aesthetic really brings out what's most appealing about these shoes: their quality - the shoes are 100% real leather, made in keeping with traditional methods.

In keeping with the ancient shoe styles that inspired them, the sandals' soles are cut from huge rolls leather, which is then hand stitched to give that lovely visible blanket-stitch effect. Straps in various carefully-chosen seasonal colours are then applied - measured by hand to be a perfect fit for your feet.

The Sandal and the Craftsman - making a sandalColours available for the coming season include bright reds and greens, black and metallic leathers. he whole process takes just fifteen minutes, and you'll get to enjoy an authentic risretto coffee while you wait!
