Casual Friday: Flossy pumps
We love our flip flops, but what can you do when summer isn't happening and it isn't safe for toes to go outside? Espadrilles are one answer, and they've been the go-to summer shoe in the Mediterranean since the dawn of shoe history. Now, the classic slip-ons have been given a modern make-over by Flossy shoes:
Available from Office, Footasylum and direct from the brand, the simple shoes are made by a family-run business from the Rioja region of Spain. It's easy to see the shoes origins in these designs: they're a little bit nautical, having been worn by sailing enthusiasts and street artists in Barcelona and the Balearics, where they also led to a trend within the club scene in Ibiza.
You can choose between plain colours, plain with contrast soles and a variety of patterns including polka-dot, nautical and Aztec (above); all have the distinctive elsaticated sections at the side and the stitched 'Flossy style' label at the back.
These pull-on plimsolls are all a great value choice, with prices coming in around the £25 mark. I'm quite a fan of the cute, sugary pink shoes pictured below that have a subtle, floral pattern on the uppers that becomes visible when you look closely:
Much like TOMS, the real beauty of these shoes is that they are super-versatile, and can be worn either with full-length or cropped trousers or with skirts.
Definitely a great choice for a holiday shoe!
