She might look like butter wouldn't melt with her demure, floor-length gown, but Dame Helen Mirren definitely had something to smile about when she stepped on to the red carpet at the Red 2 premiere in LA yesterday evening. And it was a 'surprise' we shoe-gazers have seen before...

Helen Mirren at Red 2 Premiere

Lurking beneath her emerald green gown was Dame Helen's favourite pair of "lucky Shoes"; bought in a panic after she'd forgotten to bring her intended footwear to the Emmy Awards in 2006. The actress scooped a coveted gong on that occasion, and won again when she wore the shoes a year later - establishing themselves as a fortuitous fixture in her red carpet wardrobe!

The 67-year-old is clearly unconcerned about their resemblance to "stripper" shoes: she made absolutely sure that photographers got a good gawp at the perspex platforms by lifting her dress to reveal the racy goods. There were no awards to be taken home on this occasion: the premiere of comic book-inspired action thriller Red 2 - but we think that the ever delightful Dame Helen had the winning look.
