Alexander McQueen's crazy metal-plated platforms go on sale

alexander-mcqueen-metal-plated-platforms.jpgThe shoes from Alexander McQueen A/W 11 caused a ripple of excitement when they first appeared on the Paris runway, and there is no doubt that Sarah Burton's hard-hitting designs have influenced the infatuation with fetish that has dominated the scene since.

Now, many of the styles we saw in the show are appearing in high end stores, and we spotted these white metal-plated platforms over at Net-a-Porter today.

A curious mix of tough industrial styling and floaty, chiffony flowers, these are classic McQueen: statement-making pieces with a true darkness about them. We look forward to seeing which celebrities dare to wear this beautiful yet difficult style.

Black and brown riding boots at Topshop

black-and-brown-riding-boots.jpgI've been after a pair of riding boots exactly like these ones for ages, having spotted them out on the street and looking amazing on various well-dressed legs - so I was more than happy to hunt them down to the easy destination of Topshop.

These boots, with their 'it shouldn't work!' combination of black and brown bring a real rustic feel to the urban environment, with the ruddy brown reminding us of a generous splash of mud.

The boots are 100% leather, with a lovely slight crinkle on the surface. I can't say whether they'd be suitable for actual riding purposes, but would certainly like to wear them over my jeans!

Calling all budding bloggers: come and report from our biggest ever party!

aigua-media-launch.jpgExciting news...

Things have been busier than ever behind the scenes here at Shoewawa lately, and we can now tell you that there are big changes afoot: our parent company Aigua Media is about to give all of its sites a dramatic makeover, and we plan to mark the occasion in suitably glamorous style.

Having worked our socks off to get the launch under way, the team here at Aigua is looking forward to letting our hair down for one night only at an exclusive venue in Central London. That night is Wednesday 2nd November, and we'd like one reader to take on the task of covering the event for us: in other words acting as our official guest blogger for the night - taking advantage of our hospitality for the night while mingling with our VIP guests.

This is a fabulous opportunity for anyone who wants to make it big in the dynamic world of fashion blogging, and in return we'll offer you exclusive coverage of our industry event. No other bloggers are being invited (not even those who've crossed the boundary into full-on media stardom), so you'll be the only one to get the scoop.

Ankle boots by Swedish Hasbeens

swedish-hasbeens-ankle-boots.jpgWe love Swedish Hasbeens in the summer! The crazy colourful clogs were a huge hit once again this year, and the H&M range caused quite a stir when it first appeared in store. But we've never quite got our heads around the brand's winter styles.

These boots, however, may change our minds. Sure, they're nothing immediately special or pretty, but the leather is top notch, and the black looks amazing against the super soft crepe soles and apricot-coloured trim.

A bit like DMs with an extra comfy kick, the shoes are also lined with warm and bouncy faux-shearling. I think it'll take me as long as the temperature takes to drop to be a convert...

Easy Halloween Ideas: Witch shoes and covers

witch-shoes-halloween.png

Looking for the perfect shoes to complete your witchy Halloween look? Your nude party pumps just aren't going to cut it with a pointy hat and broom-stick, so here's where you can pick up something a little more sinister.

The best brand for Gothic, vampy shoes with a hint of playfulness is undoubtedly Demonia, and those familiar with the dark caverns of Camden or other alternative markets will already be familiar with the brand. Our favourite witch style from their range is a shoe called 'Bat'; a four-and-a-half inch cone heeled Mary Jane shoe that Mortitia would be proud to wear. You can pick these up from as little as £30, and they're available either in your local alt market or from online sellers such as Stargate One.

If you're not Goth enough to want to spend £30+ on a pair of coffin-heeled shoes, there is always the option of customising a pair of your existing shoes. The witch shoe covers pictured above right are a great way to give a pair of ordinary boots or shoes a spooky make-over, and they'll set you back just £7,65. You might even want to knock up a pair of your own: the trick is to get the big buckle and the pointy ends - a look that's already pretty hot on the high street!

Happy Halloween!

Mary Jane Monday: Manolo Mary Janes

manolo-blahnik-black-patent.jpgManolo Blahnik's 'Campari' Mary Janes are a modern-day classic, and a style that anyone who appreciates the single-strap look could certainly do with having in her wardrobe! They're a go-with-anything smart shoe that functions as work-wear or as a special evening style, and the pointy toe and slender heel are unmistakably Manolo.

A true investment piece, these shoes will set you back a little over £500, but that's a reasonable price to pay if you're saving for a real icon that will give plenty of cost per wear. They're also great for anyone currently channeling the 1920s flapper girl look!

If you can't quite stretch to the Aldo pair though, these Primark pumps will satisfy your gold sparkly shoe needs. And you'll get change from a twenty-pound note. Result.

Primark gold glitter pumps, £18, available at the end of October at Primark stores nationwide.
