Winter Kate: Nicole Richie's new footwear and womenswear range to launch January 2010

winter-kate.jpgCelebrity-designed products are always a hit and miss affair, but it's fair to say that Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 has been a resounding style success. Bold, simple and not remotely bling, it oozes quality without any of the trashiness we tend to associate with 'sleb fashion.

So it's good to see that Richie is branching out, with a brand new clothes and footwear collection called Winter Kate. The range, which will include the shoes pictured here, is launching in the UK in January, when it will be available to buy from My-Wardrobe.com

winter-kate-shoes.jpgFeaturing an eclectic mix of heels, moccasin boots, wedges and flat sandals, it's easy to see the progression from the geometric jewellery in House of Harlow to the clean cut styles of Winter Kate's footwear collection. Richie said of her nascent range: "Fashion should be accessible. That was my philosophy when designing House of Harlow 1960 and it remains my philosophy for Winter Kate. I started working on this collection in early 2009, the pieces can be dressed up, made casual but most importantly, they provide the wearer a means of self-expression and fun."

Coco Rose flats: the charity comfort shoe at a great price

Fuchsia Shoe and Purse - Jane.JPGI'm quite astonished at the prices fetched by certain brands making flat shoes. Some of these items are so flimsy you can barely walk in them, and many aren't fully weatherproof. So it's good to see an attractive and affordable flat shoe on the market that's fully portable, squishes down into a cute little box and would be the perfect companion on those occasions when you're just not quite sure your feet will make it all night in heels.

The lightweight ballerinas in fabulous fuchsia are from Coco Rose London, home of some of the funkiest flatties around. All are priced at the £30-35 mark, which is much more like it - particularly when you remember that each pair comes with its own carry case. And what's more, you'll be giving generously if you buy a pair, as Coco Rose will donate £2 to cancer research UK with each purchase.

'Fuchsia' flats: £35 at Coco Rose London.

Jumbuck Boots as worn by X Factor's Rachel Adedeji

JUM-SFC.jpg

X Factor contestant Rachel Adedeji was recently spotted popping out of the talent show house in these warm looking Jumbuck Studded Fringe Cherokee boots. These £120 boots feature the suede fringe and sheepskin inner that last season's boot had, with added stud detail to bring it up to date.

I've never been a big fan of Ugg boots, as they're a little too dull for me with their lack of detail, so these boots are right up my street. The do have some very similar versions of the Ugg boots but we'll gloss over those for the moment and concentrate on the other snug boots in the range.

Magenta pumps by Bronx at Dress for Less

bronx-shoes.jpgFor the first time in years I feel quite comfortable buying shoes that aren't made in the classic 'shoe colours' of black, navy and tan. Bold block colour is the best way to brighten up your winter outfits, and these Magenta shoes by Bronx provide a vivid and easy way to achieve this look.

With a fashionable rounded heel and softly curving toe, I can imagine these being really comfortable too. They're a great choice for parties, and on sale at a good price, too.

£32.09 at Dress for Less (43% off)

Irregular Choice: another year older, another year cuter

irregular-choice1.jpg
Irregular Choice celebrated the first birthday of its Carnaby Street store yesterday, with a fizz-fuelled party for fans of the unashamedly kooky brand. With plenty of styles new and old on offer and the chance to catch a glimpse of next season's shoes, it was well worth popping along for a look at what's new - and for the discounts!

When I caught up with Irregular Choice's designer Dan Sullivan (top left) at the event, the first thing I wanted to know was what we can expect from the forthcoming range. After all, it's not easy to predict what direction a brand that does not usually bow to the whims of mainstream fashion, will take. Dan told me that IC will be going 'back to its roots' for s/s '10, focusing on the more cutesy, lighter and more fun designs that the label embraced when it was formed nearly 10 years ago.

irregular-choice-spring10.jpg

I have to say I was pleased to hear this: Irregular Choice had taken a 'darker' turn around 2003/4 and I always prefered the more whimsical styles. There's certainly plenty of whimsy to go round if the preview I've seen is anything to go by: shoe charms with pom-poms and baby dolls stand out alongside teddy-bear print pumps in a very pastel-dominated colour palate.

That's not to say that the old styles we know and love will be disappearing: Dan was eager to point out that many of the classic IC shoes will be staying on as long as their die-hard fans want them. Now, I just can't wait to see the rest of the new range, which promises to be a bucketfull of cute!

New website allows you to copy Cheryl Cole's style

cherylcoleboots.jpgRemember when Cheryl Cole was a little bit...chavvy? Scraped back ponytail, pointy heels and combats combos and a certain reported attack on a toilet attendant were the kind of things that used to get Cheryl, then Cheryl Tweedy, into the papers.

Those days are long gone, and the outfits have been replaced with thick hair extensions, chic dresses and killer heels. Cheryl's style on X Factor is so in demand that a website has been created to help people copy her style.

The site, CherylColeStyle, holds pages and pages of her outfits including several pages purely devoted to her footwear at the auditions. These Alexander Wang 'Lara' Combat Ankle boots are the ones Cheryl wore for her performance of Fight for this Love last week.

Ladies' lace-up brogues in pink and black from Schuh

ladies-brogues.jpgThese dusky pink and black flat brogues from Schuh are marvelously jazzy. In a very retro colour combo that speaks of discos and dancing, they just make me want to get them on my feet and party!

While they fit squarely into the 'boyfriend shoe' category, this is absolutely nothing unfeminine about these brogues, and they'd be a great complement to a black or monochrome outfit. The brogues are available in a rainbow of colours (including a sunshine gold) so if pink isn't your bag, there are plenty more to choose from.
