Frugal Friday: blue cross sale at Debenhams

debenhams-sale.pngDebenhams' sales are already legendary, but when they pull out the blue cross stickers, you know you're in for some real bargains. And for those on a budget this weekend, we're pleased to report that you can indulge your shoe-shopping whims, safe in the knowledge that you need not spend more than £20.

In fact, if you can reign yourself in to just one pair of shoes, you won't even need to spend as much as that: the purple colour block sandals from Ben de Lisi for Principles are a mere £10.50 (reduced from a respectable £35) and the heavy-duty boots pictured right are just £17. What a steal!

Here's what models' feet look like at the end of Fashion Week

models-feet-after-fashion-shows.jpgAre we all done eating our lunch now? 'Cause this one's a little gruesome. It's the state of a model Sojourner Morrell's foot after a punishing schedule of catwalk shows.

After seeing this and similar images, I vowed that I would never again complain about the pain of queuing for shows in heels, or indeed the misery of Fashion Week 'Flu.

Models are the ones that really suffer the physical impact of a week (or in many cases over a month) of non-stop shows, and this picture taken at Louis Vuitton's recent show highlights the damage only too well. Click the image to enlarge it if you really want to...

Something for the Weekend: Princess multi glitter wedge at Schuh

glitter-wedge-shoes.jpgI have a theory that it would be completely impossible not to have fun with these shoes on my feet, so am almost tempted to buy a pair just to cheer myself up when I'm down. Put these on, and you'll be the instant life and soul of the party, and you'll also have nailed all the colours in the season's jewel trend in one go!

If you think you need these shoes in your life, get yourself down to Schuh, where they are an exclusive style. The multi-coloured glitter will make them easy to match, whether you're planning to spend party season in monochromes, metallics or brights.

Party on!

£68 at Schuh

High Street vs. Designer: Miu Miu glitter boots vs. Topshop

miu-miu-glitter-boots-topshop-thumb-435x311-121504.pngMiu Miu glitter boot mania is in full whoop, and for those who can't afford the £550+ price tag, high street brands are falling over each other to create a copy that won't get them into any legal hot water. Here in the UK, Topshop have been first to bring out a suitable 'homage', but Steve Madden has already brought out a similar style over in the US. We prefer Topshop's version, which makes the most of the contrasting materials and is much easier to find over here!

Although it's easy to be distracted by all that glitter and glitz, the true cornerstone of the Miu Miu style however is the bent-back heel: a daring design feature that none of the high street brands are likely to be able to replicate. For the full wonky-heeled wonder of this shoe, you'll simply have to dig deep and go designer.

Astrid suede glitter boots: £80 at Topshop
Miu Miu glitter and suede peep-toe ankle boots £555 at Net-a-Porter

Debenhams launches tights for all skin tones

nude-tights.pngModels of various skin colours in traditional 'nude' hosiery

The word 'nude' is massively over-used in fashion and has become a lazy shorthand: it's easy to see just by walking down the street that people's skin tones vary so wildly. We all know what is meant by 'nude tights', but the one-size-fits-all approach may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a new type of hosiery technology being championed by Debenhams.

The image above shows a line-up of legs of skin tones varying from pale to dark. All models in the picture are wearing the same style of traditional-nude tights, which tend to be a beigey-peach tone. It's hard to tell from this image what type of skin tones the models naturally have! All are homogenised to the standards 'American tan', which can look totally different from the wearer's actual, exposed skin.

Debenhams' solution is a new style of nude hosiery that comes in light, medium and fair. The chain's hosiery buyer, Joanna Townsend said: "Producing product in nude colours should never take a one-size-fits-all approach, and we are confident that these tights will appeal to women of all ethnicities and ages. Until now, olive, Indian, mixed race and black women were forgotten when it came to skin tone tights. Our range is designed to be invisible when worn, no matter what your skin colour."

Read on over the jump to see how the models looked in hosiery from the new range!
