If you're a fully paid-up 'Grauniad' reader, you'll already be quite accustomed to taking the newspaper's advice on fashion - usually via the charming Jess Cartner Morley (whose videos we're incidentally loving at the moment). And now, you can take the step of actually buying clothes, shoes and accessories via the paper's new retail site: the Guardian Fashion Store.
I've no doubt that this news will prompt all manner of snarky comments about Guardian readers and their hippy organic hemp moccasins, but there are plenty of fashion treats to be had here, with top brands including Matches, Whistles, French Connection, LK Bennett and All Saints, where I found these 'Tansy' cage sandals, available on the site for £90
What do you get the girl who has got more shoes then sense? Shoe accessories! Or rather, accessories covered in or shaped like a pair of sultry heels.
Top of my list are the 'Foot in the Door' doorsteps on the right. No more slamming doors with these footwear inspired door wedges, which are a much classier alternative to the usual cheese style wedges.
They're £6.99 from IWOOT.com and come in red or black.
Forgive me for showing you a shoe's rear end, but I happen to think that these vintage 1980s heels, with their jaw-droppingly pristine heel caps, have particularly shapely bottoms.
One can only speculate on how these shoes have kept in such good nick for upwards of 20 years, but I wouldn't let their age put me off. The gold 'scale' pattern makes them particularly wearable at the moment, as it looks almost like fish scale - a material that's insanely popular with designers just now.
If your love of shoes extends beyond merely putting them on your feet and you appreciate the footwear form enough to want to look at it all day, then these stylish, contemporary 'shoe stencils' could be for you.
Created on the rather wonderful premise of the fairytale princess developing a shoe fetish in the years of her happily ever after, the 'Cinderalla goes shopping' stencils create a convincing trompe l'oeil effect on the surface of your choice, and take just a few minutes to complete. You could arrange them on a staircase, as shown here, pop a pair on a salvaged and re-painted stool for a shabby-chic look, or perhaps just paint them on the back of your wardrobe to instantly expand your shoe collection! The ideas are endless...
Over the past few years, I've had to strike quite a few otherwise perfect styles off my ankle-boot wishlist - all because the designers saw fit to remove the toe portion of the boot - traditionally an integral part of autumn and winter footwear.
What's going on here, folks? I know that practicality isn't the only concern when buying shoes, and is often the least of our concerns. But the open-toe styles we all love in the summer months seem to be creeping into more A/W styles than ever, and unless you're a year-round jet-setter, I can't see the trend being good to you.
...or do I just need to stop whining and invest in thicker tights? You decide!
We were all hugely impressed by Moda in Pelle's shift in design focus to a more fashion forward and classy range this autumn, so I was excited to find out what the label would be doing next.
And this week, I've been given a bit of insight, as Moda in Pelle have sent me a few preview pics of their forthcoming s/s 10 range, which includes the hot zebra sandals pictured above. I can really imagine strolling around in these open-sided shoes, chilling out in a hot city street somewhere come summer. The exposed platform is still going to be huge, and these shoes really make the most of the style.
Also in the s/s range are these neutral 'Ridinah' sandals, which are both elegant and sturdy at once. I love the way the leather has been cut around the toe, with a delicate, almost lazer-like precision (perhaps they are lazer cut?) that suggests real quality. These would be a perfect companion to all those pale-coloured clothes we so often buy during the summer months, then completely annihilate with our dark-coloured shoes. They'd also be great for summer weddings.
A promising glimpse into Moda's latest range, we look forward to seeing more!
