Handmade shoes: sandals from a yoga mat

yoga_mat_sandals.jpgWhether you're wanting to embrace your inner hippy, or just feeling the effects of the credit crunch, you can't fail to be impressed by those who make their own shoes.

One of the coolest attempts I've seen is this pair of sandals made out of an old yoga mat that had seen its last sun salutation. Flickr user Sami Sue made them, following this tutorial, with a few of her own alterations. The shoes not only look stylish, but are hard-wearing, too. A winning combination when you're talking footwear! [Via Crafty Crafty]

Bargain Tuesday: £4 flip flops from Matalan

SCAT018-6260.jpgStill got your summer holiday ahead of you? Lucky you. But with most stores starting to stock up on winter footwear, it can be harder to find beach-friendly outfits, and you may not want to spend much on them when you do because, let's face it, you're not going to get a whole lot of wear out of them when you get home, are you?

This is where Matalan comes in. These silver flip flops may not set your world on fire, but they're prettier in real life than they are in the picture, will go with most outfits, look great with a bit of a tan, and are only £4. Sorted.

Bargain Tuesday: Priceless Shoes

It's Tuesday again already, which means it's time to cheer ourselves up from that start-of-the-week-slump by ogling some pretty shoes at bargain prices!

We generally tend to focus on sale shoes on Bargain Friday, but Priceless Shoes is one of those stores where every day is a sale - or feels like one, anyway - with super-low prices the norm. You'll find lots of fashion-forward styles here, too, and while they're not leather, the price does reflect that. Click on the image below to take a look at some of the styles on offer...

Red satin peep toes

Dorothy Perkins' purple platforms

dorothy perkins.jpgWhen I spotted this picture on another forum of a member showing off the spoils of her latest retail therapy session, I was surprised to learn that the sandals were from Dorothy Perkins. The daring shade of purple combined with that funky, twisted styling looked like it would have cost a lot more than the £15 quoted by their chuffed new owner.

The shoes, which are also available in black and white, are these slingback platforms, currently in the DP sale. A great value sandal for what looks set to be a long second half of summer!

Bargain Tuesday: One week sale at New Look!

erezCA077APB.jpg

Few things make me happier than the phrase "shoe sale", and as most of the shoes in New Look's sale are currently reduced to just £10, well, I'm a happy girl indeed.

The sale will run for one week only, from today, and I'd imagine many sizes (i.e. mine) and styles will sell out fast, so if you see something you like, it's probably a good idea to grab it before it's gone. We've featured the peep toe version of the floral print courts shown above before, and, having seen them in person, I can confirm that they're just as pretty in real life. They're £10, and there are some more New Look sale bargains under the jump for you!

Bargain Tuesday: Spot espadrilles from Matalan

spot-espadrilles.jpgEspadrilles tend to get a bit of a mixed reaction here at Shoewawa: some of you absolutely hate them, while others think they're more or less a summer essential. Just for that second group then, these spot espadrilles from Matalan come in red or black, and the polka dot pattern helps make them suitably summery. They're only £10, too, which is a pretty good deal, especially given the limited opportunities to wear summer shoes here in the UK!
