Much of the US is experiencing the same 'Day After Tomorrow' style weather events we've been battling with for weeks back in Blighty, and Rachel Bilson is leading the way in Weather Warning Chic. Striding out in her croc-effect, Jimmy Choo wellington boots, she certainly knows how to dress for a deluge.
Bad news for anyone who wants to snap up a pair: the much-coveted boots are sold out pretty much everywhere. A combination of lousy weather, the magic touch of Choo and a reasonable price tag have seen demands skyrocket. But we've found a pair of the even rarer grey version, as worn by Bilson here on Ebay in a UK size 4, with a buy-it-now price of £428. That's already more than the cost of the £235 sold-out boots on Net-a-Porter...
I think Thomas Wylde is having a bit of a competition with Alexander McQueen at the moment, to see who can put the most skulls on the most accessories. These boots will certainly have added a few points to team Wylde's scorecard, as every one of those notches covering the boots is actually a miniature skull-shaped stud.
I really love the effect created by the skull-studs, and even at too great a distance to make out their detailing, they give fantastic definition and attitude to these very rock 'n' roll boots.
We've had high-heeled trainers, high-heeled DMs, high-heeled clogs and now high-heeled desert boots. Is no shoe style exempt from the curse of the high heel? Not in 2010, it seems.
I have to admit to rather liking these new designs from River Island, which are based around the traditional desert boot style. The triangular shaped heels are a good choice, and the neat little crossover laces make them look far cuter than the original versions. But what do you think?
Marc Jacobs certainly knows how to draw attention, and these boots would certainly be a great idea if you don't like people looking at your face. Or clothes, or body, or indeed looking anywhere else at all, as they're just so incredibly shiny!
Joking aside, these boots are such a functional shape that they could actually slot quite neatly into your everyday wardrobe, brightening up jeans or smart trousers with minimal effort.
A touch of leopard print is still an easy and fashion-savvy way to add interest and style to an everyday outfit, and we're big fans of this new style at ASOS that's channelling Cheryl Cole.
The colour palate has moved away from natural animal print shades, and the monochrome variant here makes for a less gaudy overall look, that's still sexy and fun. A concealed platform adds height, and counterbalances the skinny heel.
We're loving these black and beige boots from Topshop, which have that high street trick of looking more expensive than they are down to a fine art. Perhaps it's their similarity to Vivienne Westwood's two-tone bondage boots (but without the crazy 'animal' toe).
Ankle boots with a bit of a twist on the normal styles are always handy wardrobe glue, and these shoes could be dressed up or down. A purchase you can justify as entirely sensible!

Lazer cutting is a big footwear trend at the moment, but until now I've mainly seen it used exclusively on designer or top-end high street styles. These boots by ASOS show how the technique can be used to create exciting shapes on shoes that are a little more affordable, and I really love the effect.
The black and white contrast is a feature you can make even more of by wearing the boots with opaque black tights, creating an overall look that's très Chanel. The cut-out front panel looks amazing against bare skin too, and you could definitely wear these bare-legged in summer.
