There's nothing more useful to have in your winter wardrobe than a pair of knee-length boots. Worn under trousers they provide extra warmth, but you can also vamp them up by paring them with short skirts for sexier look. I can already tell that these wine-coloured boots by Bronx would serve both purposes admirably.
The utilitarian looking black tread on the sole provides pleasing contrast that works whether the entire boots is on display or just the bottom section, while the smooth, shapely leather adds interest further up. And they're slender enough to do rugged or elegant, depending on your mood. Definitely a good all-rounder, and they're available in black, too.

I always feel a little furtive putting posts about H&M shoes I've 'spied' in this blog, but until they get a website sorted out it does seem to be the only way to write about them! So apologies for my poor photography for now. The point I'm trying to make is that Lady Gaga style has now hit the high street big-time, and this sort of leg-gear is now showing up on the accessories racks of affordable shops like H&M.
I'm not sure quite whether I'm impressed or scard by this turn of events: armies of thigh-high boot clad girlies thronging the streets sounds a bit like something form a Superhero movie, which is kind of cool in principle but it's no easy look to pull off. On the other hand, these zip on zip off boots (which are really just sandals with a long boot bit attached) certainly will be, and could make an outfit go from 0 to 60 in seconds.
If you like 'em, they're £49.99 at your local H&M

I seem to recall a time when separating the heel and main body of a shoe with something as radical as two different colours was a complete style no-no, but at the moment it seems to be very much the done thing.
The contrast is very much what makes these smart booties by Miu Miu and the matte cream of the heels really enhances the shine on the leather so you can really sense its quality. I'd love a pair of these to see me through winter; they look tough. Sadly, so does the price: £387 at My Theresa

Just when it seemed our love or leopard print was ready die a natural death, the pattern has gone into all-out attack mode, sinking its fangs into everything and anything you might possibly want to wear. Jimmy Choo's gone mad for it, and now Stuart Weitzman has lost all sense of decency with these wild leopard-print wellie boots.
OK, I do have to admit I'd love to wear these boots, and think the crystal clear soles are a very smart touch. But £89 for wellies? But hang on. A quick look through some of the more purse-friendly stores revealed that there was something awfully similar to be had at Miss Selfridge, where you'll find the wellies on the left (complete with 'designer' clear soles) for a good two thirds less. The choice is yours!

With grunge threatening to make a messy comeback at any moment, there's so much DM-driven creativity going on at the moment it's hard to keep up. But here's a style I spotted over at US site Karmaloop that's particularly caught the mood: it's got the random-sized eyelet look made popular by Stella McCartney et. al. and I think it works really well.
You'd need to be brave enough to rock these boots with a short (preferably leather) skirt to really work the style but a pair of DMs will never let you down whatever you wear them with. Grab a pair for £90 at Doc Marten
The common sense side of my brain is telling me that these Office Slip It On shoes are a seriously impractical purchase for the next few months. They're suede, so they're destined to be destroyed by the onslaught of Autumn rain. They're bright pink, so they're not going to go with much of my, primarily green and purple, wardrobe. I have a feeling my feet would look a little choked in the high cut ankle design too. Plus the likelihood of me losing the ability to walk normally after an hour in these is pretty low
That's the common sense side of my brain though. The shopping side of my brain is screaming to me that I need these shoes. The cute bow on the back. The unusual cut of the edges making it perfect for skinny jeans! The gorgeous cheery colour! Did I mention the cute bow on the back? I really want these shoes, and I definitely have an opening for a bright pink suede shoe-boot in my collection.
They're £68 and also come in black if you're not feeling the pink ones.
It's not the only pair of pink shoes I've got my eye on at Office though...

Last week was all about deep purples and other dark and sinister tones but this week we've moved on to washed out greys and neutral tones. They're going to be huge this winter too, so don't assume you have to go as dark and Gothic as Agyness Deyn's hair!
Chie Mihara's 'Ayoi' boots are a lovely shape, displaying the label's distinctive weighty, rounded style alongside some fun seasonal flourishes - like those oversized floppy bows. I think they'd look amazing under jeans and can't imagine seeing many more of them pounding the streets here in the UK this winter. If you like your footwear to look a little different, they're available for £266 at Footlux
