These dusky pink and black flat brogues from Schuh are marvelously jazzy. In a very retro colour combo that speaks of discos and dancing, they just make me want to get them on my feet and party!
While they fit squarely into the 'boyfriend shoe' category, this is absolutely nothing unfeminine about these brogues, and they'd be a great complement to a black or monochrome outfit. The brogues are available in a rainbow of colours (including a sunshine gold) so if pink isn't your bag, there are plenty more to choose from.
If you like broguing, but don't want to go for the full-on, boyfriend-style loafer approach then a pair of pumps with a smart two-tone pattern can be the perfect look for you. It's a look that Moschino Cheap & Chic do particularly well, and I can imagine these black and cream pumps being a fabulously versatile wardrobe addition.
Seen close-up, it's possible to make out that the 'brogue' element of the shoes is actually made up of gold eyelets, set next to a bevelled-edge of cream leather - I love this effect, and think it makes the shoes even more on trend.
If you don't quite feel 'old' enough to embrace the full-on brogue look, here's a style that might help ease you out of your Havaianas and into something a whole lot more grown-up for the coming season.
Harajuku Lovers' two-tone patent brogues are perfect transition wear, fusing nautical reds and blues with the autumnal loafer look. Team these with capri pants and flared skirts for now, then try them with tights later on.
I came close to rejecting a fair few of the shoes that landed in my inbox this week, on the grounds that they don't fit the 'women's footwear' remit of this blog. But on a second glance, these items turn out to be unisex or 'boyfriend' shoes; apparently the next big thing in footwear.
Many of them look like the sort of things we wore at school, or to jazz dance classes, but mostly they just look like old brogues from the blokes' section in Clarks. You can probably tell I'm not a fan...but what do you think?
For some reason, most of the flat shoes I buy tend to be black, but I've become very taken with these Kurt Geiger 'Annabelle' shoes.
The fact that they're on sale, like most shoes at the moment (woop) have helped slightly, but I like the patent leather and I really like the combination of taupe and grey.
They just look effortlessly stylish, and even though they're flats, you can tell they would really smarten up an outfit. You can buy them from Kurt Geiger for £75 (they were £95) and if you'd like them in black too, luckily the option is available!
New in for Autumn 09/10 at My Wardrobe, these yummy plum suede brogue boots are right on the money for next season's key trends. Even in July, it's easy to see how much fun we'll all be having this winter with thick tights, short skirts and killer boots in all sorts of lovely dark shades!
These ones are positively high-end, but if you can't afford the price tag you won't need to look far to find similar styles with a pointy toe and slightly witchy heel. £347 at My-Wardrobe
Oh, brogues. I'm still not really sure about brogues. I have a friend who would happily wear them everyday for the rest of her life, but I've never owned any, nor felt the need to.
And I have the utmost respect for Christian Louboutin, but I'm not sure giving them the sparkle treatment was a good idea. They look a bit like tap shoes from a production of Rent, or maybe something Graham Norton might have in his wardrobe for a night out. If they float your boat, they're £380 from Net-a-Porter.
