Gingham and cherries: could these shoes be any more retro if they tried? They're by Underground, and while the classic, plimsoll style is all well and good, it's the gingham-print-with-a-cherry-on-top that gives them their appeal. There's even a cherry print insole, which obviously won't be seen by anyone but your good self, but sometimes these little details are what really makes a shoe. These would be great on holiday with denim shorts, but you could also make them work for most casual occasions. They're £25 at ASOS.

These 'Easy Peasy' pumps from Office look like they'll do exactly what it says on the tin shoebox - be 'easy peasy' to wear, whether you're wearing jeans, skirts, dresses, or anything else you can think of - exactly what you need for Casual Friday!
I really like the low vamp and pointed toe which means that although these shoes are casual, they're still delicate and won't make your feet look huge. The blue and white colourway is fresh and a little bit sporty, while the laces are a nice touch. These are £25 and also available in red, yellow and black.

These are a little bit Carmen Miranda, so bold is that floral print, so I'm guessing that they'll be way too girlie for some of you. For those of you who like your florals, though, these bow front pumps by KTW will add a nice touch to your summer outfits, while the thick rubber sole will provide plenty of traction should you decide to go for a stroll in them. They're £30 at ASOS and look particularly good with the pale, rolled-up jeans worn by the model.

OK, hands up who had a pair of shoes like these when they were in school? I certainly did, and it looks like Topshop's designers probably did too, hence the reason these shoes have been named "school pumps". Mine were strictly for P.E. of course, and mine were black rather than this lovely sunshiny yellow, but if you fancy a bit of a blast from the past, you can buy these ones from Topshop for just £12. And you won't even have to play rounders in them, either...

Polka dots. Peep toes. Bows. It's all of my very favourite things, brought together in the same shoe, and they've even made them in this season's nautical navy, too! The shoe in question is Topshop's 'Vanessa' , and for a casual shoe made out of cotton, I think these are gorgeous. The small wedge heel means that they'll be more comfortable than flats or heels, and there's a bit of pin-up-girl glamour to them that you don't often see in so casual a shoe. They're £15, and you can also buy them in grey, green and red.

A word to the wise: if canvas sneakers are on your summer shopping list, take a look at Dorothy Perkins. They have lots of canvas shoes in at the moment, in both high top and classic styles, and the prices are very reasonable - the blue shoes shown here are £18, and the low lace-ups just £12. These come in yellow, black and white as well as blue, and all will make great casual shoes for warmer weather.

When it comes to causal footwear, it can be hard to go past Keds. "Casual" doesn't have to mean "flat", though, and luckily Keds know this, because along with their range of flat canvas slip-ons, they're currently also selling these ribbon detail wedges , which are comfy and casual without forcing you to sacrifice that bit of extra high a good pair of heels gives you. These are £40 at ASOS, and I'm particularly liking the floral print on the wedge heel!
