Polka dots. Peep toes. Bows. It's all of my very favourite things, brought together in the same shoe, and they've even made them in this season's nautical navy, too! The shoe in question is Topshop's 'Vanessa' , and for a casual shoe made out of cotton, I think these are gorgeous. The small wedge heel means that they'll be more comfortable than flats or heels, and there's a bit of pin-up-girl glamour to them that you don't often see in so casual a shoe. They're £15, and you can also buy them in grey, green and red.

A word to the wise: if canvas sneakers are on your summer shopping list, take a look at Dorothy Perkins. They have lots of canvas shoes in at the moment, in both high top and classic styles, and the prices are very reasonable - the blue shoes shown here are £18, and the low lace-ups just £12. These come in yellow, black and white as well as blue, and all will make great casual shoes for warmer weather.

When it comes to causal footwear, it can be hard to go past Keds. "Casual" doesn't have to mean "flat", though, and luckily Keds know this, because along with their range of flat canvas slip-ons, they're currently also selling these ribbon detail wedges , which are comfy and casual without forcing you to sacrifice that bit of extra high a good pair of heels gives you. These are £40 at ASOS, and I'm particularly liking the floral print on the wedge heel!

For a retro take on Casual Friday, look no further than Pin Up Girl Clothing, who are selling these cute little cherry print sneakers with a Mary Jane strap on the front, for $28. Unlike many pairs of sneakers, these are going to work with almost anything, from jeans to skirts and dresses, and they're also very feminine - well, they couldn't really be anything else with that print, could they? Perfect shoes for summer holidays or any other casual occasions, you definitely won't want to keep them just for Fridays.

For some, casual Friday means dressing down in your oldest, comfiest shoes. If you're a designer kind of gal, though, that just won't cut it, so just for you, these Comme des Garcons sneakers will allow you to indulge your label love while remaining (relatively) casual and comfy. Of course, the gold leather they're made from may be a bit of a giveaway, but these are down to £155 in the Browns sale section, so you're still getting a bargain.

It's my firm belief that, even on casual Friday, footwear should still have a bit of glamour to it. Rocket Dog clearly agree with me: why else would these 'Kat Kall' sneakers come in a fabulous silver, glittery finish, with a star stuck to the front? Good to wear with jeans, but equally acceptable with a skirt or dress, these are only £10 at Schuh, so you can be comfortable without having to spend a whole wad of cash. Perfect.

'Country Sleek' indeed! These trainers from Adidas - complete with the trademark three stripes - are really quite lovely! With their matching green sole and pretty perforated detail, these would make a fantastic weekend shoe for those "true love" mini-breaks to the countryside. Pair with denim for casual chic; if you've been looking for a breath of fresh air for your feet, these minty fresh trainers are just £49.99.
