Zoe Saldana's Oscars outfit has really divided opinion. While many critics loved her daring, frou-frou outfit by Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, others commented that it made her look like a toilet roll. Well you can't please everybody...
What we did like was that she gave us a tiny glimpse of her shoes: the unidentified t-bar platforms were the perfect companion to the controversial dress, providing both the necessary lift and the colour coordination needed to pull off the entire outfit. That's what we want with evening shoes - whether they're bridal wear or a little something for the belle of the ball. Good choice.
Unfortunately for us shoe-gazers, very few of the celebs at last night's Oscars were sporting enough to lift up their sweeping skirts and give us a good ogle at their footwear. One rare exception was Brit actress Carey Mulligan, whose dress was conveniently cut to show off her blocky Prada shoes, which as our sister site the OSO blog points out, look a bit like they're held on by bandages.
We were much more impressed by what Carey wore at the Independent Spirit Awards on Friday, however: she rocked up in Rupert Sanderson's very vampish 'Estelle' heels - a style we think would have gone down a storm with that Oscars dress. What was she thinking?

Estelle is available at Net-a-Porter, priced at £430
Celebs love their TOMS, and Alice in Wonderland actress Anne Hathaway was spotted earlier in the week sprinting around in a pair of TOMS which which stood out due to the brightly coloured patterned scrawled on to the canvas. Did she perhaps design them herself?
Of course, TOMS are not just shoes: they are shoes with a cause. Blake Mycoskie founded TOMS on a simple premise and with every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. Spread the shoe love!
If you'd like to join the TOMS gang from here in the UK, the brand new sping/summer 2010 collection has just landed at Schuh! Browse the collection here.
American Idol star Katherine McPhee was seen making the most of a pair of heavy-bottomed skyscraper heels as she balanced from one foot to the other outside Vanity Fair's pre-Oscars party last week. While talking to a friend, she repeatedly kicked her heels, which emphasized her already jaw-droppingly long legs.
The question we're all asking is: was she simply enjoying showing off her stunning shoes, or was she desperate to make a dash for the ladies'? Either way, she's given us a good demonstration of how chunky stems can look great - as long as your own 'stems' are up to the job...

We've all done it (probably). Finding a bargain version of your dream shoe in a size that isn't *quite* there but you can probably get away with is all part of the course for us mere mortals, for whom those end-of-line size 3s can sometimes be just too tempting.
But one person we wouldn't have expected to see clonking about in too-big shoes of any sort is Paris Hilton. Surely the hotel heiress can have shoes made to fit her feet regardless of size? The pair she had on at her recent birthday bash looked more like hand-me-downs from sister Nicky than the tailored-to-perfection style we've come to expect from the socialite. Perhaps, as she approaches her thirties, she's taking a more relaxed attitude to style...
Half the attendees of the Brit Awards this week seemed to have plumped for platform heels, but flame-haired Nicola Roberts did one better with these double layer platform shoes from Gianmarco Lorenzi.
The platforms have a small section between the base and the second platform, kind of like a mini shoe sandwich.
You can buy the Gianmarco Lorenzi pink eel platform shoes for £590, from the South Molton Street branch in London.
The Brit awards is always an event where music and fashion collide, and never has the dressed-up element been so important as now we have the likes of Lady Gaga to look up to. But I was doing more looking down when I surveyed the sartorial element of the event, checking out what those minted celebs had chosen to wear from all the wonderful footwear available to them.
There's a definite lighter, brighter look going on and neon stilettos were the shoes of choice for at least two key figures. We're also seeing plenty of platforms, and it was nice to see Stella McCartney's fishscale double platform sandals, a style we've drooled over, being given a prestigious outing.
