As I mentioned in my last column for Shoewawa, I spent a couple of weeks in Florida earlier this month (new shoe count: 6 pairs). While there are some great shoe bargains to be had in the sunshine state (just ask my long suffering husband - and my credit card company), it quickly became clear to me that I was visiting what has to be the Crocs capital of the world.
Yes, there are Crocs everywhere in the state of Florida. We travelled from Orlando down to Key West, and from Key West to Miami, and no matter where we went we saw the same thing: Crocs. Either there was some kind of crazy Crocs convention going on at the time or the unimaginable has happened: Crocs have become one of the world's favourite types of footwear.

For those of y'all who haven't seen this - I can't resist, I must share it with you, my fellow shoe addicts. Theres no denying that YouTube is one of the biggest things of 2006-07 and the same applies to the YouTubers who're thriving in that new medium. Love it or hate it, oddball performances are some of the biggest draws, so... Without further ado, I give you the early 2007 YouTube hit, Shoes, by Kelly (aka Liam Sullivan, a YouTube comedian.) The skit/song is unfuriatingly catchy ("These shoes are three hundred dollars!! Lets get 'em!") and watching it is somewhat akin to staring at a train wreck in slow motion.
Aside from the obvious practicalities of sometimes wearing flats (i.e. if you have a one and a half mile walk home) or heels (i.e. if you're going on a date with someone who is 6 ft 7" tall), most of the shoe lovers I know have a clear preference between the two.
Personally, I'm without a doubt a heels girl. Flats are great for many things and can often be incredibly comfortable, but there's nothing like the feeling of slipping on a gorgeous LBD and hiking up your height by three or four inches, to really feel ready to go out and enjoy yourself. Sadly I've yet to find the holy grail, but I live in hope that one day I will find myself a luxuriously comfortable pair of stiletto heels.
Which do you prefer?

Learn something new every day - or even better, learn a few new things every day. I had this lovely Marc by Marc Jacobs pump to show ya'll and I went a little bananas describing every favored detail when I realized there must be a better way to phrase "I love the menswear inspired flappy thing under the laces!"
I have a question for you. Do you wear trainers or flats to work and then change when you get there? If so, how many pairs of shoes do you keep at work? When I left my last job I took home five pairs of shoes. Five pairs! There were my beautiful pussy cat pair from Aldo (they were black with pink inside and a gorgeous little pussy cat on the toe), a plain black pair, a cream pair (which I never wore, but absolutely loved), a brown pair and a black pair of boots – a pair for every possible occasion and outfit. So this is just a quick, unofficial Shoewawa poll – how many pairs of shoes have you got at work?

Last week I wrote about my not-so-secret-anymore habit of wearing Uggs and other comfort-based shoe types if it's just popping out for a walk or to the supermarket - or basically anywhere that I'm unlikely to meet anyone I know. After reading Orla's recent article on dressing from the feet up (yup, yup - me too), it got me wondering whether shoes are really the most important part of any outfit, and what people generally will judge each other based on.
Among friends, I'm well known for my shoe addiction. My boyfriend knows that complimenting my footwear will produce a grin, and my mother is assured that any time I treat myself to a purchase it will never be something so useful as a pair of jeans. But, I ask my fellow fetishists, am I alone in letting them define my entire wardrobe?
I often find myself shopping to meet my shoe wardrobe's needs. Do you too dress from the feet upwards?
