Michelle Obama wears Crocs; Tim Gunn doesn't approve

michelleobama_crocsmalindi.jpg

As fashionable as she may be, even Michelle Obama has her off-duty days. The First Lady was recently spotted out and about with hubby and kids in a pair of teal 'Malindi' slingback Crocs. Maybe this is what helped the struggling company get a much-needed injection of $30million? Either way, Tim Gunn wasn't too impressed...

Have Crocs hit the big time with an editorial shoot in French Vogue?

crocs_parisvogueeditorial.jpg

If you are to believe the blog-o-sphere (and why wouldn't you? Humph!) then those ghastly plasticy things, otherwise known as Crocs, could feature in the September issue of French Vogue. According to the buzz, this picture, starring Raquel Zimmerman in a pair of bright orange Crocs *shudder* form part of an editorial shoot for the upcoming issue. And here I thought I'd never the see the day... Crocs in Vogue? What has the world come to?

Ugly Shoe of the Week

crocs-high-heels.jpgThere's not a lot of love lost between Shoewawa and Crocs, but nevertheless, when I heard tell of a new, high heeled Croc, I had to go and investigate, in the hopes that it might actually be quite nice. But nope, it's the same old primary coloured plastic, I'm afraid, and although Crocs say that these will "spice up any fashionista's wardrobe," I regret to tell them that fashionistas have better things to spend their money on than plastic shoes. Am I wrong?

Crocs make cellphone cases: shoe lovers mourn

crocs=phone-case.jpgBrace yourselves, people. You may have hoped that the Crocs craze was dying a slow death (how much longer can people think plastic shoes are stylish, after all?) but this week our sister site, Shiny Shiny, brings us tidings of the Crocs mobile phone case: where will this madness end?

As you can see from the image, the case is basically a Croc for your phone. It comes complete with "heel strap", to keep the phone safe, and can even be accessorised with 'Jibbitz' charms, just like the real thing. There's also a panel at the back which you can use to store your credit cards and important documents, showing that, just like the shoes, the Croc phone case is useful, but not remotely stylish.

It'll be available soon in Europe only, and will cost £6.95.

Hate Crocs? You're not alone...

Although Crocs don't have many friends here at Shoewawa, no one hates the plastic monstrosities more than Kate Leth of iHateCrocs.com. Just to prove it, here she is taking a pair of scissors to a particularly ugly yellow Croc - and not resting until she's reduced it to a pile of yellow rubber. If you, too, hate Crocs, you'll find this video a strangely cathartic experience. If, on the other hand, you're a Croc-lover... well, what are you doing reading Shoewawa, anyway?

A Croc by any other name...?

crocs-shockers-by-nature-and-name-at-target.JPGThe gleeful mirth that sprung up in my shoe-loving-croc-hating heart was quite overwhelming, when I spotted this addition to Target’s weekly catalogue this evening – and I couldn’t resist sharing it with you! They may well be the most prominent bane of Shoemanity in recent times (for those in the know, obviously; versus those who wear them), but perhaps the mainstream retail industry is catching on? That, or someone in the advertising department has finally developed a decent sense of humour! Yes, indeed, these are faux-Crocs; or as I shall henceforth call them: Shockers! Shocking by nature and shocking by name, they’re 2 for $15AU at Target!

Crocs in the Wild - Crocs on a window!

crocs-in-the-wild-010.jpgThanks to Beth of the Shiny Fashion Forums, who sent in this picture of a pair of Crocs which look suspiciously like they're trying to escape out of a window and head back to the wild! Beth explains what they're really doing up there:

"My mum owns a pair of Crocs and as much as I don’t like them, she only wears them as slippers or to take the bins out round the back where it’s muddy. Now today after I thought she was showering, I opened my eyes (that were resting on a sunbed in the garden) to see this horrendous sight. My mum had been washing her Crocs and hung them out to dry on the bathroom window. I could’ve died of embarrassment and immediately thought of your feature! It’s as if she’s showcasing to the neighbours that she has them. It’s bad enough her wearing them but advertising for them?!"
