Azzedine Alaia red and zig-zag platforms

azzedine-new.jpgWe're big fans of Azzedine Alaia's cultish, daring styles and these new platforms are very much in keeping with the designer's offer so far. The trademark cut-out details works beautifully here, making for a pretty sandal with an edge - but it's that zig-zag patterning on the heel and platform that really set the shoe off into footwear classic territory.">Browns

Cassette Playa updates the Nike 'Blazer' trainer

cassetteplaya_nikeblazer_trainer.jpgCassette Playa a.k.a. Carri Mundane has just unleashed her version of Nike's iconic 'Blazer' trainer, first created for the designer's spring/summer '08 collection.

But hark back to 1973, when the 'Blazer' first hit the street, and its a far cry from those times. Carri has added her own special flavour, injecting colours that "reference the faded neons of Eighties' skate culture". I'll say... I'm *hearting* that peachy/coral hue.

The Cassette Playa Blazer trainer will be available from December 20, priced at £85, from select Nike stores. Visit: www.nikesportswear.com

Stuart Weitzman's nude patent Mary Janes

nudemjs.jpgThese shoes were one of Saks' best sellers this week, and its not difficult to see why. We've talked about the appeal of nude shoes before, and how they help lengthen the leg, and when you apply that nude colour to a classic Mary Jane shape, you have a winner. Add a button detail and some white piping, make them available in black too, and you have yourself the kind of classic shoe style that you'll find yourself wearing again and again.

Miu Miu go back to “basics” with their dainty ‘Banana’ flats

miumiu-jewelled-banana.jpgHallelujah! Let there be dancing in the streets! For today, we decree to be Thank-God-It's-Miu-Miu Day. Why, you might ask? Because they've finally gone back to what they do best - gorgeous jewelled flats! In anthracite leather, these lovelies are the cat's miaow, with their grosgrain ribbon trim and Swarovski crystal brooch. Better get your skates on, though, because you're going to have to race at least half of the Shoewawa staff if you want to get your mitts on a pair! They're £265 from Net-A-Porter.

More Oxford pumps - Dolce Vita's 'Missy' in biscuit and black

oxfordmissy.jpgI know Oxford pumps are getting to be old hat now, but as these ones by Dolce Vita are one of the nicer pairs I've seen, I thought it was only right to show them to you. More wearable than many of the huge platform styles we seen last year, these still have a sexily high heel and although the platform is still there, it's a hidden one, giving the shoe a sleeker shape than some of its contemporaries. I also think using "biscuit" rather than white has worked well here, and the shoe has a softer look than the black and white versions which were everywhere in 2007. These are $149.

Three thigh high boots for those who dare to wear them!

thigh-high-boots.jpg

It's definitely not a look everyone could pull off - or would even want to - but if you're a fan of thigh-boots, now could be a good time to buy a pair, with quite a few designer offerings around. Of the three pairs pictured, Christian Louboutin's Black suede thigh highs are the most expensive, at £920, while Stella McCartney's Stretch over the knee boots come in at £465 (despite looking like the cheapest of the three, I think), and Delman's lower budget offerings are $332.

We talked last week about how very tall boots can work well with floaty dresses and other, less structured pieces. Would you splash the best part of $1000 on such statement footwear, though?

Christian Louboutin's 'Jaws' patent ballet flats - not as scary as they sound

louboutin-flats.jpgWhen I read the name of these 'Jaws' ballet flats by Christian Louboutin , my first thought was that Louboutin had designed yet another pair of those scary fish shoes we featured a few weeks ago. Worry not, though: these shoes do have teeth (well, sort of) but they're not the kind that can bite you. Instead, Louboutin has relegated the "teeth" to the outer rim of the shoe, where they look just like any other patterning. They're cream and the rest of the shoe is black, making them the perfect compliment to the black and cream Peter Pan dresses which are going to be so popular this winter. In fact, Net-a-Porter's mannequin is wearing one of them in the picture of these shoes! They're £305.
