Nicole Richie was spotted all over New York Fashion Week wearing the same pair of Pierre Hardy black velvet sandals, I guess she thought she was onto a good thing. Now you too can partake in the strappy velvetness that is these zip-front heels because they're now available at Matches for £575. Get 'em while they're hot.

I'm going to be honest here, and just say upfront I can't think of anything in my current wardrobe which these Jimmy Choo ankle boots would go with (which you'd think would indicate these aren't the best boot choice of the season for me). But having nothing to match has never stopped me buying shoes before - and it won't stop me in the future either!
These blue suede shoes starred in the autumn advertising campaign alongside Angela Lindvall and will most definitely up the ante of any outfit you choose to pair them up with. (I'm thinking a floor-skimming, thigh-splitting white dress would have to be my next buy - thanks Ange for the suggestion!) They're $995 from Net-a-Porter.

I normally tend to avoid looking too hard at designer boots, because I know the price will probably be more than my monthly mortgage payment, and I just don't want to get too attached to them before realising there is no hope of them ever being mine. I made an exception for these ones by Dolce & Gabbana, though, because they were just too perfect not to show you.
The burgundy leather uppers are simple, but the colour makes a nice change from brown and black, and will be almost as versatile. (It looks like more of an oxblood than a true burgundy to me, which will make it easy to wear). The gold heels, meanwhile, add that "wow" factor, and are what really sets these boots apart. Like them? They're £495 from My-Wardrobe.

At the arrival of those Manolo Blahnik blue satin stilettos worn by Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City: the movie at Bergdorf's last Friday, the man himself said:
"They asked us for a shoe, we made 14 pairs and sent them off, and they never told us which one they were using or what role the shoe would play in the film. I think this may be the most famous shoe in the world. I had no idea any of this would happen."
As for what he thought of the film...
"I don't know. I haven't seen it. I think I'll go tomorrow."

Holy thigh-highs Batman - would you look at those boots?! Bring out your inner superhero in these statement-making, glossy patent leather 'Super Woman' boots by Christian Louboutin.
The combination of the black patent, with blue graffiti print and the scary over-the-knee length would mean I would struggle to think up places to wear them. But I guess half the fun actually lies in thinking up places to wear them. Maybe chuck them on under a conservative dress/classic trench ready for a superhero-like big reveal later on in the day, or perhaps you'll just have to start up a new hobby involving rescuing neighbourhood kittens from trees... They're $1,260.00 from Bluefly.

Buttons. I've talked before about how much I love them on footwear, so it will come as no surprise that I've been doing some serious gushing this week over these Alexander McQueen button ankle boots. These are more or less my ideal ankle boots, except... wait: is that a steel toe cap? I think it is. Well, uh, other than the steel toe cap, which seems kinda pointless on this style of shoe, these are my ideal ankle boots.
I love them for the sleek, elegant shape, the slender stiletto heel and, of course, the buttons. I don't love them for the £780 price tag, but hey, I guess we can't have everything. If you can have these, you can get them from Net-a-Porter.

Friday night glamour doesn't have to mean strappy sandals and diamante, and just to prove it, here are Christian Louboutin's gold platform pumps, which are understated compared to many of the shoes we've featured in this column, but still dripping with classic glamour. The metallic leather uppers and slender heel don't sound like much on paper, but in real life these shoes will take you absolutely anywhere - although the 4.5" heel may make it more sensible to just call a cab. These are $695 at Saks.
