If you're noticing a theme here at Shoewawa today, be reassured, it's not just us, it's the shoe world in general, deciding to give flats their moment in the sun and making them in all kinds of party-worthy materials. Glitter always rears its sparkly head in the run-up to the party season, and Dorothy Perkins are clearly making sure they get in first with these glitter covered flats. They come in either black or pewter, are just £18, and will make a shiny alternative to heels on a night out.

I love gold shoes and I love patent, but together? Hmm, not so sure about that one. Topshop are, though, and they've made these gold patent 'Mezzo' flats, just to prove it. This is yet more proof that square toes are back in a big way, and while the combination of square toe and flat sole is a little much for my stiletto-loving sensibilities, if you're a fan, you'll be pleased to know these are also available in blue, and are available at Topshop for £25.

There sure are a lot of sequins around right now, aren't there? It's probably part of the inevitable "run up to Christmas" season, when designers start to bring out the party shoes in their droves. These ones by Kate Spade, however, lack the spindly heels and strappiness of many party shoes but don't scrimp on the glitz, given that they're covered in sequins. They're $165 at Bluefly, and are also available in black.

I wear ballet flats everywhere, which could explain why the heels wear down after a season or two. While it can be a pain, it gives me a great excuse to buy cute (and cheap) ballet flats when I come upon a pair with interesting detail, in a chic colour or style. I love the crazy pattern Merona Makenna brooch flats from Target. Finished off with a black satin ribbon and brooch detail, these $32.99 flats are the perfect colourful addition to a monochrome outfit.

It doesn't take a genius to see that fringed/tassled boots are going to be... actually, make that, are already huge and will continue to be hot all through winter. Kylie wore her Gucci boots back in August and I got a case of lusting-after-fringed-boots-itis, but now that it's truly heading into autumn/winter, it's time to get serious about buying a pair.
While I normally need (and want) a boost in the height department, I'm willing to go into flats territory since these tassle boots are so freakin' sweet. And that's not the only sweet thing about this scenario - at just £50, that means I can still afford to look into a heeled pair too! From Miss Selfridge.

I've always loved Mimco accessories: the Australian brand manages to combine stylish modern accessories with a hint of vintage appeal. With their newly launched collection of shoes they've looked the 1950s and 1960s for inspiration with these Capote loafers. Made from chic patent leather, they feature a little coloured acrylic rod on the vamp of the shoe. Simple but versatile, the shoe follows the brand ethos while adding extra style to your look. Having said that, the shoe isn't the most affordable loafer around at AUD$325, but can be justified.

'Panda' is a charming name for these simply-elegant flats by Sigerson Morrison in black and white (or, as the site prefers to call it: 'Baltimora Nutmeg & Latte & Glass Copper'). These flats are yet another example of the army of decorative ballet pumps that have come marching out of the designers' closets this season to grab their moment in the limelight. I like the swirling pattern on the toe (OK, perhaps that does excuse the coffee refrerence) and can see these shoes being exceptionally versatile. $283 at Revolve Clothing
