I can't imagine anything more decadent than wearing designer flipflops. Aren't these the things we normally buy in small, medium or large for less than a fiver?
Apparently not anymore, as thong sandals by the big fashion houses have been a huge hit since last summer. These ones are in keeping with Dior's low-key glamour, and will set you back a mere £60.

Dr Scholl's sandals definitely didn't look like this when I was a kid... And OK, these may not be the most fabulous shoes in the world, but they're very different from the comfortable, rather sensible wood-soled slip ons that were all the rage back in the 80s, and I've surprised myself by really liking that oversized buckle on the leather uppers, Kitten heels aren't generally my favourite either, but I think these could make a nice alternative to flip-flops, for girls who really can't bear to sacrifice their heels. They're $59 at Shoes.com.

I'm back on the floral hook again! Only this time it's the Hawaiian sort of flower that only blooms on shoes and clothing this side of the Atlantic.
If you're going to wear flip-flops, you might as well go the whole hog and buy some that speak of cocktails on the beach, and Ted Baker's flipflops step neatly into the role. Rubbery and completely waterproof, they'll weigh virtually nothing in your luggage. On sale at Office half price for £8

Although it was the bright green colour of these RSVP flip flops that initially caught my eye, this is far from the only colour these shoes are available in. No, you can also buy a pair in pink, black, white and blue, all with that distinctive large glass ornament on the front. These are comfortable and casual while still being just a little bit glitzy, and the choice of colours means that you should be able to find a pair to suit almost every outfit. They're $64 and have a cushioned heel bed too, to add to the comfort factor. Get them at Zappos.

Still searching for that perfect pair of summer flip flops? I think these ones from Warehouse are super-cute, with the little bows on the front, each with a large jewel in the centre, Of course, without the bow this would just be a standard, unremarkable flip flop, but with it, it's a shoe that's guaranteed to make me take notice at least. If it made you take notice too, you'll find these at Warehouse, where they're £22.

River Island have described these flip flops as "gladiator sandals" on their website, which I'm assuming is a mistake, because I can't imagine many gladiators would have walked around in silver flip flops with flowers on them, somehow. I'd certainly wear them, mind you: I don't think you can go very far wrong with a pair of metallic flip flops, and the floral detailing makes these ones extra pretty. They're £19.99, which is on the expensive side for flip flops, but they are real leather, so should last you a long time.

This is the second pair of Tory Burch flip flops we've featured recently, but while the first pair were the budget versions (if £30 for a pair of rubber shoes can be considered "budget"), these ones occupy the other end of the scale entirely. Not only are they more expensive at $175 (ouch!), they're also that bit dressier, with a colourful patent leather flower attached to the front. The yellow colour us just pure sunshine here, and there's no denying that these would be a great addition to my holiday suitcase, but I think the price would ultimately still put me off. What about you?
