This is the second pair of Tory Burch flip flops we've featured recently, but while the first pair were the budget versions (if £30 for a pair of rubber shoes can be considered "budget"), these ones occupy the other end of the scale entirely. Not only are they more expensive at $175 (ouch!), they're also that bit dressier, with a colourful patent leather flower attached to the front. The yellow colour us just pure sunshine here, and there's no denying that these would be a great addition to my holiday suitcase, but I think the price would ultimately still put me off. What about you?

Flip-flops need not be delicate little flat things. Oh no, they can be anything but! Admittedly, these 9cm studded monsters from Rocket Dog could more accurately be described as 'thwap-thwops', but they'll still give your feet the fresh air shower they need on hot days.
I've owned a very similar pair of shoes, and did not find the height of the platform a hindrance, since the foam used to make the bases is so easy to walk on. You'll get some interesting looks at bus stops, but the style is very flattering to those not blessed with height, and lends your summer wardrobe a cool, punky look. You don't need oodles of straps, colours or even a heel to make for an interesting shoe. Simple can often be sweeter and sassier - as these Dune flat sandals prove.
With a nude reptile effect and decorated with oversized multicolour jewels, they are the perfect understated day shoe to pair with some white cuffed shorts and a loose vest top or shirt... but are also dressy enough to wear with a pretty frock come evening too. They're £55 from Dune.

On their own, they don't exactly look pretty. But get them on your feet and Dopie shoes are quite an experience.
Like walking barefoot but without the injuries and the stepping in nasty stuff, these 'naked shoes for naked people' would make an ideal travelling companion. They're light, squishable and quite outrageously comfortable to wear. Are these the sweetest flip flips around or what? I'm a big fan of the everyday Haviannas, but for a bit of girlie fun, these flip flops adorned with a pewter bow from Warehouse have the right kind of charm. Made from 100% leather they'd be great for the ultimate girlie girl who loves bows, ribbons and even alice bands. Though you might have to think twice before spending £22 on them.

These are essentially simple Miss Selfridge thong sandals, but they're just a little cool and funky thanks to the red snake print and knotted detail. They're perfect if you're like me and have a relative simple but chic wardrobe and modernize your look with accessories. These shoes for just £18 are perfect - wear them for a season or two and throw them out.

I can't help thinking of cheap tequila sunrise when I look at these gradient shoes in tartrazine orange orange and gold by Aldo.
Is that a bad quality in a shoe you'll most probably wear on the beach and forget about come Autumn? Not necessarily. The two-tone vibe is alive and kicking this summer, and who said a couple of cocktails ever did any harm? Just...don't over do it.
