Even although the autumn/winter stock has started appearing on the shelves, there are still plenty of summer sandals to be found, which is good news for anyone planning a holiday abroad, or just being wildly optimistic about the good old British weather.
I actually think these silver jewel-front sandals from Dorothy Perkins are one of my favourite sandals of the summer. They're simple enough to be worn casually with shorts and jeans, but the jewels also make them much nicer than flip flops if you're looking for a more dressed-up look. They're also only £25, which I think is a pretty good deal.

Wearing trainers in Summer is a fast-track to smelly, sweaty feet, but what do you do if you're addicted? As much as I'm a heels and sandals girl, I know plenty of people are as addicted to their sports shoes as many Shoewawa girls are to their stilettos. KangaROOS have addresses the balance by applying some of their sporty traits to a far more practical Summer flip-flop. 'Escape' is yours for £15 and perfect for active girls who need something to see them through a beach holiday without breaking the budget, they're available from Viva La Diva now.

What do these thong sandals from Forever 21 remind you of? To me, they look like they have taken inspiration from Miu Miu's spring/summer '08 campaign, although I wouldn't go as far to say I could imagine Kirsten Dunst actually wearing them!
But the colourblocking, the colourway and the bow all add up to a very Harlequin-esque vibe don't you think? Perhaps you could pair them with a high-waisted puffball mini skirt, a loose, tucked-in vest top and some burgundy lippy to channel that Miu Miu vibe (but in a toned-down way). $14.80 from Forever 21.

I can't imagine anything more decadent than wearing designer flipflops. Aren't these the things we normally buy in small, medium or large for less than a fiver?
Apparently not anymore, as thong sandals by the big fashion houses have been a huge hit since last summer. These ones are in keeping with Dior's low-key glamour, and will set you back a mere £60.

Dr Scholl's sandals definitely didn't look like this when I was a kid... And OK, these may not be the most fabulous shoes in the world, but they're very different from the comfortable, rather sensible wood-soled slip ons that were all the rage back in the 80s, and I've surprised myself by really liking that oversized buckle on the leather uppers, Kitten heels aren't generally my favourite either, but I think these could make a nice alternative to flip-flops, for girls who really can't bear to sacrifice their heels. They're $59 at Shoes.com.

I'm back on the floral hook again! Only this time it's the Hawaiian sort of flower that only blooms on shoes and clothing this side of the Atlantic.
If you're going to wear flip-flops, you might as well go the whole hog and buy some that speak of cocktails on the beach, and Ted Baker's flipflops step neatly into the role. Rubbery and completely waterproof, they'll weigh virtually nothing in your luggage. On sale at Office half price for £8

Although it was the bright green colour of these RSVP flip flops that initially caught my eye, this is far from the only colour these shoes are available in. No, you can also buy a pair in pink, black, white and blue, all with that distinctive large glass ornament on the front. These are comfortable and casual while still being just a little bit glitzy, and the choice of colours means that you should be able to find a pair to suit almost every outfit. They're $64 and have a cushioned heel bed too, to add to the comfort factor. Get them at Zappos.
