I don't know about you, but I'm just not sure I could bring myself to spend $195 on a pair of rubber flip flops, no matter how cute they were, or what designer logo they had stamped on the heel. These ones are Yves St Laurent's 'Biarritz' heart thongs (they're out of stock at the moment, but can usually be found at Saks), and while the love heart toe post and tie ankle strap certainly sets them apart from the usual cheap flip flops we all tend to buy to get us through the summer, they're still ultimately a pair of rubber sandals. Would you pay $195 for them? Come to think of it, would you wear them at all?

Remember when Skechers were actually a cool shoe to wear in the late 1990s? Well the brand doesn't quite have the same clout, and you don't see them coming back into favour when you look at these Banded Thong Sandals by Sketchers. The Victoria's Secret website touts them as a "golden opportunity for casual chic" but I really don't agree. Would you pay $34 for these "comfy" sandals?

While there might not be many who'd spend $175 on a pair of jellies, I'm sure there will be a fair few who can manage to fork out $7.80. Although whether you want to is the next question.
If you can overlook sweaty feet and stinging blisters, jellies are such the quintessential summer shoe - great for beach wearing and holiday wearing and just everyday wearing... until they are all worn down. These ones from Forever 21 benefit from a hot pink sole and an ankle strap to keep the flip-flop style planted on your foot.

Ah, the wedge heeled thong sandal! It pops up at around this time every year, and I have to admit to a certain fondness to it, because the low wedge allows you to have the comfort of flip flops while still giving you that little bit of extra height and arch support. These 'Nifty' wedges by Pied a Terre have a leather lining which makes them look particularly comfortable, while the silver metallic leather means you'll be able to get away with them for more than just the most casual of occasions. They also come in black and gold and are £75.

Love your summer sandals? What about these Giuseppe Zanotti antique gold metal ring sandals for your dream resort holiday? Made beautiful antique gold leather with a small wedge heel, the ankle strap is held together by a gold tone twisted metal ring. Very nautical looking, these glamorous sandals would look great as a party shoe when your feet just can't handle the heels any more. They've been marked down from $595 to $476 on BlueFly, not making them completely affordable, but still a good investment nonetheless.
If Giuseppe Zanotti and French Sole can do it, you can just bet your bottom dollar that Steve Madden's going to want to do it too! These are his 'Blosommm' sandals, which are very similar to the flower thongs produced by the aforementioned designers, although Madden's flower is rather more rosette-like than either of his competitors. His price is cheaper too: these are $79.99 and are also available in black.

Spring has sprung, so now's your chance to stock up on flats that let your perfectly pedicured feet a chance to breathe. And I have just the shoe for you, these Michael Kors Castle slingbacks. Made from navy suede, they're a nice classic style shoe which will take you from work to play. The contrast stitched upper penny loafer detail gives the shoe an interesting appeal - do they remind any one else of the Chloe Edith shoe with the tab? Either way these shoes are a steal at $147, marked down from their RRP of $245.
