Just occasionally, I feel almost guilty about my anti-Ugg sentiments, so it's nice to have something positive to say about them for a change. Presumably unable to prosper on winter sales alone, the brand has moved into summer footwear - and I have to say I approve of their latest collection of flip flops.
In particular, the raised platform flip flop known as 'Brook', which is available now at Office. With a subtle oriental look about them and a heavenly soft cork wedge, they're the very thing to see you through summer. They also boast something called a 'Poron footbed', which is geek speak for quite incredibly comfortable. Oh God, now I sound like an Ugg fan...

Well it seems the nation (and the Shoewawa team) remain firmly divided as to whether jelly sandals are fashion-forward or just plain silly but I think I may have finally found a pair that actually looks good on a woman over the age of 18! (or could that be 8..)
And believe it or not it's Tod's who have triumphed! These jelly sandals are cute and stylish! There is still plenty of summer left so if you're not jelly-inclined why not throw caution to the wind and consider putting a spring back into your step with these jelly delights. Even if you are anti-plastic you have to admit these simple sandals are just gorgeous and at the very least they're guaranteed to make you smile! Oh go on, crack a smile.
Another reason to move over to the j-side is that they're practical too! The material is waterproof so no more soggy feet and there are grippy bits on the bottom so no embarrassing slips either! But what we love the most is that beyond the cuteness they still retain Tod's signature detailing inluding silver hardware and hand-made leather tassles.

Okay, so while I'm madly on the hunt for a new pair of gladiator sandals to get my feet in the mood to really kick off summer, I'm well aware that many of you will be sick of the sight of them and will be wanting some other chic alternatives.
These brown toe post sandals really caught my eye because they deliver just that - they're not gladiators, but they still look fashionable and, most importantly, pretty darn good. The jewel detailing means they will sparkle and glitter in the sun, but the neutral tan colour means they're not overtly blingin'. Just perfect. They're a very reasonable £25 from Evans.

Whilst these shoes are no Havaianas, they do serve an Indiana Jones-esque purpose of allowing you to discover buried trash dirty cans treasure as you pad along the beach. Cleverly hidden in the right sandal is a copper coil, which attaches to a battery pack strapped to your right leg. The ring creates a magnetic field around the sole of the shoe, and when you pass over something metallic (within a 2 foot radius) the field is disrupted and the battery pack vibrates and flashes red.
Now you can go dig up whatever exciting thing is underfoot - making you the Nancy Drew of beach trash/lost wedding rings. They work off a 9 volt battery, and are sure to look...er, extremely stylish (?!) when teamed with that itsy bitsy bikini. They're $59.99 from Hammacher Schlemmer.

I've said this before, but I am addicted to my Havaiana flipflops and it would take a mighty great shoe to get me out of them this summer. However, I'm not against changing things up a little, even if it's on a purely rotational basis, so I'm going to be on the lookout from now on for something to add to my 'summer essentials' shoe pile.
These flat sandals from New Look have a lot of potential - they're a flip flop design, but are a bit different to the norm thanks to their pretty beaded ankle strap. They're also a very affordable £25, so even if they don't outlast my beloved Havs, I won't be too cross with them.

Those brilliant inventions out of Brazil known as Havaianas (trust me I'm Aussie, they're a Godsend) are taking on the world - literally. This latest spring '09 campaign from the flip-flop makers is genius. Shot on location in Paris, Madrid, Rome and London, thousands pairs of 'Havs' have taken up cemetery-style in front of the world's biggest landmarks. Brill!

Everything about these Poetic Licence sandals, from the name to the cute little flowers on the front, make me feel a little bit better about the fact that it's still cold enough here to make me want to emigrate. Of course, I'd feel happier still if I was wearing them on a tropical beach somewhere, with a cocktail in one hand, but hey, you can't have everything. You can have these, though, and you can have them for $94.95 at Bakers.
