Prada-esque platform shoes from Topshop

topshop-does-prada.jpg

Although it certainly had its moments, I really wasn't keen on much of Prada's S/S '08 shoe collection, so this is one case where I think the high street has actually managed to do a better job than the designer. Topshop's 'Rainbow Swirl' platforms seem to draw inspiration from Prada's swirls and two-tone colourways, but the end result is much more wearable. I particularly like the black and gold version, although the coral, of course, is very 'summer '08', if that matters to you. These are £65 and available in the three colours shown above.

High Street Vs Designer: Aldo and Alexander McQueen

aldo-mcqueen.jpg

I though there was something familair about Aldo's 'Rabenhorst' peep toes when I stumbled upon them this morning, and sure enough, they bear more than a passing resemblance to the Alexander McQueen zebra striped pumps we featured back in December 2007.

The price, of course, bears absolutely no resemblance to the designer version: the Adlo shoes are just £60 to McQueen's £380.

Forever 21 hard top studded platform

forever21studdedplatforms.jpg

Studded, 'tough'-looking shoes and accessories are the hot thing at the moment. Celebs and everyday fashionistas alike are loving the contrast created by pairing a fierce accessory with a prim and proper pencil skirt or floaty floral dress. SJP with her studded belt in the Sex and the City movie is just one case in point.

Christian Louboutin's Ariella boots and Mad Mary platforms have been seen on about every fashionable foot from here to Timbuktu. So of course, Forever 21 are not far behind. These hard top studded platforms will give you a similar look for only $22.80.

New Look brogue ballet flats

new look flat brogue.jpg How cute are these Miu Miu style ballet flats? They're from New Look which means they're a lot cheaper than actual Miu Miu (only £20) and although I've had my fill of Miu Miu 'homages' these ones are quirky enough to pass muster.

Snap them up instead of a pair of sandals this summer, and they'll be your constant stylish companion come rain, shine, hail or whatever else the British summer tries to throw at us!

High Street V. Designer: Bakers' 'Hunter' and Gucci's 'Newton'

gucci-v-bakers.jpg

Poor Gucci. Their 'Newton' booties seem to have become one of the most "inspirational" shoes of the past year, with first Dorothy Perkins making their own versions of them and now Bakers following suit.

These 'Hunter' booties from Bakers don't quite have that same Gucci quality, but they do have just about everything else, minus the logo of course. They're $69.95, but would you buy them?

High Street Vs. Designer: Star sandals by YSL and ASOS

star_sandals.jpg

I'm sure none of you will need me to point out that stars have been a big look so far this year. YSL sent these star-spangled sandals down the catwalk as part of their Spring/Summer 08 collection, and they're available at Barneys for $595. ASOS, as always, have a less expensive version on offer, and while their star detail strappy sandals aren't exactly the same as their designer counterparts, the price is certainly more affordable, at £25.

High Street Vs Designer: Steve Madden does Balenciaga's lego shoes

steve-madden-balenciaga.jpg

It's a 'High Street Vs Designer' feature, so it stands to reason that Steve Madden would be involved! This time Mr Madden has looked for "inspiration" from one of the most recognisable shoes of recent times - Balenciaga's famous 'lego' shoes, shown on the right of the picture above. The Steve Madden versions are $99.95, and are available in white, tan and black, as well as the multi colourway shown above. Not being a fan of the originals, I'm not tempted by these ones either, but what do you think? Has Steve Madden finally gone too far?
