These shoes look super-summery to me, so I was actually a little surprised to find them in Net-a-Porter's 'new in' section, at a time when it tend to be filled mostly with boots and other "weather appropriate" shoes. These Roberto Cavalli Mary Janes, however, have mesh uppers in a nude colour, and are decorated with flowers on the toes and heels - they look to me like they'd be most at home tripping around some flower-filled meadow in midsummer (if you happened to live inside a TV commercial, of course), but on second glance, I guess they could also make great party shoes - if your skin is roughly the same colour as the mesh, you'll look like your feet are clad in nothing but flowers, which could be interesting to say the least!

I'm quite sure a lot of you out there will hate these shoes on sight, and even I'm having difficulty trying to imagine where exactly I'd wear them, but on the other hand, if you like Mary Janes, like bows and have been secretly hankering after some white patent heels, these could be just the shoes for you.
They're by Madison Harding, are $15.95 at Nordstrom, and if that white and blue combo is still looking a little childish to you, you may like to know that they look a lot more grown up in black. Trust me.

A more "traditional" Mary Jane for you this week - in shape, at least. That bold red and black colour isn't particularly "traditional", but it does save this shoe from being too demure. I find this height of heel a particularly difficult one to wear, because I tend to be a bit of an "all or nothing" type, going for either high heels or flats, but if you're looking for something mid-height, I think these look like they'd be comfortable. They're £60 at Topshop.

A high-end Mary Jane for you this week, folks, and just in case there was any doubt about how high-end it is, Burberry have put their name on the metal plate on the front of it. Now, personally I hate logos on shoes and clothes, but luckily this one isn't too distracting, and I love everything else about this shoe, especially the wide band, which is placed low on the foot, making it look less girlish than some other styles of Mary Jane.
These are $395, and are also available in black, from Nordstrom

Remember the fabulous studded Louboutins Madonna wore to Live Earth last year? Well, these are... nothing like them, really. But they're working along the same lines, at least, with the studs on the heel and strap, and if you're looking for a way to toughen up your Mary Jane look, this could well be it. These are £240 by Strutt Couture, and they're available at ASOS. I think they'd be a great look for winter, worn with opaque tights, and they'll add a bit of an edge to all of your demure skirts and dresses, too.

This particular style of Mary Jane, with a narrow strap low on the foot, has to be my very favourite. It's somehow more elegant than the versions where the strap sits across the bridge of the foot and, of course, the narrow stiletto heel helps too.
These shoes come from Warehouse, which was a little bit of a surprise to me: I love Warehouse's clothes, but their shoes have been nice, but nothing particularly special up until now. At £60, though, these are good value for a shoe you'll get a whole lot of wear out of.

These purple Mary Janes from Aldo are the perfect colour for the coming Autumn, I think, although if you'd like something just a little more versatile, they're also available in black patent and grey. I love the covered platform and high stiletto heel, which help add a little sex appeal to the Mary Jane shape, and the toe shape is a welcome change from the rounded toes which are so common on Mary Janes in general. Finally, the little button on the strap is the perfect finishing touch!
Get them for £70 from Aldo.
