Mary Jane Monday: Strutt's black and gold platform Mary Janes

strutt-mjs.jpg£115 may not seem like much of a "bargain" for a pair of shoes, but given that these ones by Strutt have been reduced from £229, you may just think they're worth it. With a YSL-style toe and black and gold vamp, there's something classic about this shoe, although the silver and white version which is also available is a completely different story, and looks far cheaper than these ones! The shiny gold of the platform and heel on these shoes won't be to everyone's taste, of course, but if you like them, you can find them at ASOS.com, where they're still available in most sizes.

Mary Jane Monday: Miss Selfridge ladybird pumps

miss selfridge ladybird mary jane shoes.jpgLadybirds and shoes seem to have had a long flirtation, but these printed fabric shoes by Miss Selfridge are some of the cutest I've seen.

The Mary Jane pumps have a simple strap and black piping around the printed fabric. Sure, they remind me a bit of the things I used to toddle around in when I was four, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia in moderation. Particularly when it sets you back a mere £10.

Mary Jane Monday: Linea Paolo's floral print 'Zara' Mary Jane pumps

linea-paolo-mary-janes.jpgNot even the humble Mary Jane is immune to the tide of floral print that's been hitting our stores this summer, as these 'Zara' pumps by Linea Paolo prove. They have black patent piping surrounding a print that's bright and bold, but not so much so that you'll find it difficult to wear. These will add a nice touch to sundresses, pencil skirts and trousers - just be wary of trying to wear them with anything else floral! If you don't like this particular colour combination, they're also available in brown with yellow flowers, and you can find them at Nordstrom, where a pair will set you back $99.95.

Mary Jane Monday: Target's polka dot 'Skyler' Mary Janes

5160jI90KRL__SS260_.jpgTarget have been making Mary Jane pumps for a while now, but I think this version, in a black and white polka dot satin merit a mention on Mary Jane Monday for their fun but very wearable style. An easy way to inject a little personality into your work wardrobe, they're $19.99, which makes them very affordable, too. A classic Mary Jane shape with a comfortable, mid-height heel - what more could you ask for?

Mary Jane Monday: Doctor Marten 'Drew' wedges

doc marten drew mary jane.jpgNow, I haven't felt the need to wear Doc Marten boots since my schooldays in the '90s, and while I don't have any desire to re-visit the steelie-toed 'police' boots I used to wear, I do miss the quality and sturdiness you can always guarantee when you by a pair of DMs.

And now, they've gone and made a Mary Jane style shoe that's right up my street. 'Drew' is a comfortable, platform wedge that brings the label right up to date, and looks like it will last you at least until DM boots come back into style. Pick then up for £49.99.

Mary Jane Monday: Black sequin Mary Janes from Go Jane

sequin-mary-janes.jpgAs lovely as they are, Mary Janes wouldn't necessarily be the first shoes you'd reach for on a glam night out. These ones, however, just might make the grade, with their all-over sequins making them more than a match for that little black (or red, or green, or blue...) dress. These are only $20.99 from Go Jane, and the relatively low heel will also make them easy to dance in. They're also available in silver and gold, although there's a limited number of sizes available, so if you love them you may want to keep checking back to see if more stock arrives.

Mary Jane Monday: Green canvas Mary Janes from ASOS

green_mary_jane-asos.jpgI must confess, when I think of canvas shoes, I tend to think of the type of flats you typically wear on holiday, or for casual wear, rather than high heeled Mary Janes. There's something very summery about the fabric, though, especially when it comes in bright colours, like this bright green, or the equally bright blue these ASOS Mary Janes are available in. The peep toe adds another summery touch, making these nice, season-appropriate shoes (assuming the sun decides to come back out that is) which you can pick up at ASOS for £30.
