Subdued style: Kurt Geiger's Angela courts

carvela-angela-grey-courts.jpgI'm getting very excited about all the cut-out detail shoes that are around this summer, and as usual, Kurt Geiger have a stylish and grown-up take on current trends.

'Angela' is a low heel round toe court with ankle strap and two-tone, braided leather. It would make an interesting work shoe, being eminently 'sensible', yet reassuringly fashionable for those who don't want to camouflage too closely with the office furniture. The price isn't bad for KG, at £75.

Topshop's cap toe 'Sarah' Mary Janes

topshops's-'Sarah'-mjs.jpgAnother Mary Jane for you this morning - well, it is Mary Jane Monday, after all! These are Topshop's 'Sarah' Mary Janes, and they bring back the cap toe that was so popular during the winter season, combining it with contrasting leather uppers and strap. These are also available in red (with black toe) and a rather nice taupe/brown combination, and are £60. Somehow they look more like winter shoes than summer ones to me, but you can always tuck them away for a couple of months until it's time to wear them.

Mary Jane Monday: Black sequin Mary Janes from Go Jane

sequin-mary-janes.jpgAs lovely as they are, Mary Janes wouldn't necessarily be the first shoes you'd reach for on a glam night out. These ones, however, just might make the grade, with their all-over sequins making them more than a match for that little black (or red, or green, or blue...) dress. These are only $20.99 from Go Jane, and the relatively low heel will also make them easy to dance in. They're also available in silver and gold, although there's a limited number of sizes available, so if you love them you may want to keep checking back to see if more stock arrives.

Mary Jane Monday: Green canvas Mary Janes from ASOS

green_mary_jane-asos.jpgI must confess, when I think of canvas shoes, I tend to think of the type of flats you typically wear on holiday, or for casual wear, rather than high heeled Mary Janes. There's something very summery about the fabric, though, especially when it comes in bright colours, like this bright green, or the equally bright blue these ASOS Mary Janes are available in. The peep toe adds another summery touch, making these nice, season-appropriate shoes (assuming the sun decides to come back out that is) which you can pick up at ASOS for £30.

Lady Luck Mary Janes from TUK

lady%20luck%20shoes-thumb-210x254-thumb-210x254.jpgI've just got back from a sunny weekend away in Brighton, so you'll have to forgive my current lust for all things alternative and kooky while I adjust to humdrum London life.

In the meantime, I am loving these 'Lady Luck' shoes from TUK which are a fun departure from the label's usual skulls and kitties. There's always something a bit subversive about wearing footwear with text, and as a variation on this theme you can also find Rock 'n' Roll Mary Janes, which are set off with a trendy lightning bolt. Both styles are £39.95 at Cloggs and you can find more TUK goodness on our shoe finder.

Michael Antonio Lucy Mary Jane from Alloy

alloy-lucy-164073.jpg Last week I talked about a 6" high heel, which in itself is rather intimidating, but what about these 5" heel babies? Sure they're not designer, but if you're looking for a height boost and don't want to fork out hundreds of dollars to do so, I don't think you can go too wrong with these Michael Antonio Lucy Mary Jane from Alloy. Made from man-made material (Natalie Portman would approve) these blue patent leather Mary-Janes feature cute floral cut outs and a peep toe. Still not convinced? Well your feet would only be arching up 3 ½" and not 5 with the 1 ½" platform. All this will just set you back $32.50.

Mary Jane Monday: Hispanitas 'Girasol' slingback brogues

mary-jane-slingbacks.jpgIt's a brogue, a slingback and a Mary Jane, all in one! On paper, these shoes sound like they have way too much going on, but in person, I actually think they're quite cute, if you're looking for a low-heeled, comfortable shoe. The combination of red, black and white is a particular favourite of mine on shoes, but if you're not keen, there's also a version of these in tan. These are $181.95 at Nordstrom, who call them a "modern take on the spectator shoe".
