John Fluevog patent pumps with gold heel

41s7NYeUsZL__AA280_.jpgThese shoes would probably have escaped my notice entirely, were it not for that sculpted gold heel, which gives them a bit of a "costume" feel. That's just fine by me - if you can't get a little theatrical with your footwear, when can you? - and I think the wavy sides are the perfect complement to the heel. Both elements help turn what would've been a pair of ordinary black Mary Janes into something that merits a second look: there's also a concealed platform, to give you a bit of extra height.

These are $358.95 at Amazon.

Black patent mary janes under $20

Target mary janes.jpg

ShinyStyle's Andrea Kiliany Thatcher writes...

That's right, these adorable black patent mary janes are only $19.99 at - where else? - Target.

No they're not Isaac Mizrahi, either, they're simple old Xhilaration. The Skyler patent mary jane pumps have a cute button detail and an almost 3" heel.

We almost saved these for our 50 Gifts Under $50 list coming soon, but we had to tell you about them now before they're all gone.

Mary Jane Monday: Teal patent platform Mary Janes from Next

teal-mjs.jpgTeal: it's one of my favourite winter colours (I don't know why it feels like a "winter" colour specifically, it just does) and I know lots of you like it too, so these patent, teal coloured Mary Janes seemed like a good choice for our Mary Jane Monday slot.

These are only £30 from Next, and I like the high platform and almond toes, which makes these the kind of shoes that would be suitable for wearing with both trousers and skirts/dresses. And the patent uppers should provide a nice bit of waterproofing, too!

Mary Jane Monday: Dune's 'Parasol' Mary Janes

dune-mjs.jpg

We tend to feature a lot of high heeled shoes here on Mary Jane Monday, so just for a change, here's a more "traditional" pair of flat Mary Janes from Dune. The style press have been referring to this winter as "the season of the flat" for some time now, but whether you believe that or not, you can never go wrong with a cute pair of black flats, and these ones will take you just about everywhere, looking good with jeans, skirts and dresses alike. They're £35 and you can buy them here.

Office 'Pins and needles' shoes in raspberry glitter

office_pins_and_needles.jpgThe winter footwear glitter bomb has well and truly detonated, and here I am again with a sparkly specimen, this time from Office. I tend to think that if you're going to go for sparkle, you might as well go all-out and do something crazy, like embrace a really girly shade of pink, and let's not forget the great big bow. That's what's happened here, and I can see these cute Mary Janes going down a treat at Christmas parties. £60 at Office, also available in black.

Mary Jane Monday: Eley Kishimoto bow front Mary Janes

eley-kishimoto-bow-mjs.jpgI'm a big fan of both Eley Kishimoto and bows in general, so these shoes were probably always going to be winners for me, but the tweed uppers and pink trim have sealed the deal for me. Then there's that shiny silver heel...

The mix of fabrics (tweed, patent, metallic leather) and colours sound like they shouldn't work together but somehow they do, and there's something just a little bit eccentric about the result that makes me love it even more. The tweed is perfect for winter, so if you want to get your hands on these as soon as possible, head over to ASOS.com where they're £205.

Davis By Ruthie Davis 'Nut' runway Mary Jane pumps

ruthie-davis-nut-shoes.jpg

On paper, these shoes might not sound like they'd work: hunter green uppers, orange strap, gold buckle... strange nobbly bits on the heel. In real life, though - or in this photo at least - they look just right, and pretty special, into the bargain! These were worn by Avril Lavingne in US Weekly magazine this year, and there's something just a little bit punky about them on account of that heel, but not so much that you'd not be able to wear them with all of your usual outfits. In fact, I think these would help liven up just about anything you wanted to wear with them, and if you think so too, you can buy them for $875 here.
