Toast nazer heel suede shoes in lipstick red

toast_lipstick.jpgI think these unusual-looking Mary Janes by Toast are really rather chic: available in ultramarine or lipstick red, they have an understated glamour about them that will earn you oodles of style points.

The uppers are made from exceptionally soft suede, and this much is obvious simply by looking at the shoes close up. The heels are worth a second glance too: fashionably cone-shaped, they have a contrasting tip. £165 from Toast.

Melissa green 'Hello' shoe in flocked scented plastic

melissa_green.jpgI've not seen a Melissa shoe that wasn't made entirely from plastic before, but these smart 'Hello' shoes in green flock show that the queen of jelly works well in other materials, too.

There's more than a touch of the Vivienne Westwood about these tartan trimmed Mary Janes, which despite their textured finish are both fully waterproof and bubblegum scented. Ideal for those occasions where smart is necessary but bad weather is likely.

Mary Jane Monday: 'Ciara' work courts from Warehouse

warehouse-mary-janes.jpgThis particular style of Mary Jane, with a narrow strap low on the foot, has to be my very favourite. It's somehow more elegant than the versions where the strap sits across the bridge of the foot and, of course, the narrow stiletto heel helps too.

These shoes come from Warehouse, which was a little bit of a surprise to me: I love Warehouse's clothes, but their shoes have been nice, but nothing particularly special up until now. At £60, though, these are good value for a shoe you'll get a whole lot of wear out of.

Bertie patchwork ankle strap court shoes

bertie mary jane.jpgThese multi-textured courts with faux snakeskin effect from Bertie put a fun and quirky spin on the traditional Mary-Jane and will add a bit of extra glamour to smart or evening wear.

I love the way the ankle strap curves around to the very back of the heel, giving the shoe a sophisticated, structured look, while the cone heel brings them into line with most of the season's trends. Cute! They're available for £85 at ASOS.

Mary Jane Monday - purple platform Mary Janes from Aldo

aldo-purple-mjs.jpgThese purple Mary Janes from Aldo are the perfect colour for the coming Autumn, I think, although if you'd like something just a little more versatile, they're also available in black patent and grey. I love the covered platform and high stiletto heel, which help add a little sex appeal to the Mary Jane shape, and the toe shape is a welcome change from the rounded toes which are so common on Mary Janes in general. Finally, the little button on the strap is the perfect finishing touch!

Get them for £70 from Aldo.

Mary Jane Monday: Juice contrast Mary Janes from Topshop

juice-contracst-mary-janes.jpg

These shoes are more or less the "mullets" of the Mary Jane world, all buiness in the front and party at the back! At first glance, the slightly sensible shape doesn't seem to lend itself to the sparkly heel, but now that I've seen them a few times, I'm starting to really like them, and think the heel gives a nice, unexpected twist to what could have been accused of being just a little bit boring otherwise.

They're £55 from Topshop.

Two-tone bar shoes from Oli

37D831OLIL.jpgOli's new season catalogue just dropped through my door, and one of the many shoe styles to catch my eye inside was these two-tone bar shoes, which retail for £35. I love black and white used together on shoes, and these are nicely dramatic without being over the top.

Oli also have a version of these which is black with a cream coloured strap and heel, and equally pretty!
