I can't say that I am at all upset by this news, quite the opposite actually. But nevertheless, Crocs have posted a deep loss this week, as sales of the ugly colourful plastic shoe plummeted.
News sources report that the hit sent shares plunging down by 37 per cent in trade. Suggested solutions have so far included closing down its Brazilian manufacturing plant, and slashing next year's capital expenditure by 50 per cent. Ouch! While I don't like to see anyone out of a job let's be frank, the fewer Crocs on the planet the better for all.
"You are gold! Gold! Always believe in your sooouuullll...." Whoops, sorry: it's almost the end of the week, you see, and every time I look at Giles Deacon's 'Gold' collection for New Look, this song pops into my head. Eighties music associations aside, though, the shoes Deacon has created for his latest collection are really quite impressive. Sadly, there's only three different styles to choose from, but as far as I'm concerned, everyone's a winner, baby, that's the truth. (Sorry. I'll stop now.)
The metallic stilettos (£35) have a bit of a rocky feel to them, courtesy of that double ankle straps, while the corsage stilettos (also £35) are a little bit retro. One more pic under the jump....
Payless is getting generous for the holiday season, by donating $1 million worth of shoes to American families of children in need.
The initiative Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids, is the first-of-its-kind national campaign aimed at delivering more than 650,000 pairs of shoes via a partnership network of local non-for-profit organisations. They are also putting the call-out to charities across the U.S., who work with underprivileged children, to help get involved. To register your interest, visit: Paylessgives.com.
Just like the Redfoot After Party Shoes, the clever folks over at Tipsy Feet (a much more appropriate name) have come up with a handy way to protect your tooties from the perils of wearing heels.
They were featured on Dragon's Den, and are fast becoming a favourite amongst party-goers for their stylish design. With a choice of three colours - gold, black and silver, Tipsy Feet fit neatly into your handbag thanks to a matching pouch. Priced at just £20 each, they make the perfect gift. A couple of weeks ago Manolo Blahnik was inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style for his achievements in luxury shoe design. Many celebs came out to pay tribute Blahnik including Hilary Duff, Lucy Liu, and Nicky Hilton. They were asked to remember their very first Manolo purchase (an anecdote I'm sure we could all tell *wink*). As for the man himself, he admitted to being 'overwhelmed, but very honoured'. I wonder if he thanked Patricia Field and the SATC wardrobe department in his acceptance speech. Click play above to watch the video.
George at Asda has long been one of my guilty little secrets when it comes to buying shoes on a budget, but their footwear and clothing has only every been available in store until now, so you can only imagine my happiness when I discovered their new transactional website, Asda Direct, which sells the George clothing and accessory line, plus things like homewear and toys from the store.
My top two shoe picks at the moment are these silver knot front peep-toes (which I can tell you are even prettier in real life) and the black slingbacks. Both will come in handy during the upcoming party season, and with the peep toes costing £15 and the slingbacks just £12, you can probably afford to buy both!
Jonathan Kelsey has expressed his surprise over being recently nominated for a British Fashion Award.
'I'm very, very flattered. I'm a relatively new player in the industry, so it's hugely appreciated,' he told Grazia. 'I was at home watching TV when I got the call. My boyfriend and I just looked at each other thinking "They've made a mistake... Let's not say anything!"
Kelsey has been shortlisted for Best Accessory Designer, he faces competition from Rupert Sanderson and Lara Bohinc. The winners will be announced at a lavish ceremony on November 11.
