Lara Flynn Boyle starts a new red carpet trend - no shoes necessary!

laraflynnboyle_sansshoes.jpg

Now this is certainly not something that you see everyday... Lara Flynn Boyle, or 'that-slightly-unhinged-one-from-The Practice' attended the Carousel of Hope ball this week sans shoes. That's right, the actress strolled the red carpet in a long black skirt, and cream blazer completely unfazed by the fact that she was barefoot - not even wearing flip flops, nothing. Catherine from Red Carpet Fashion Awards blog seems to have a theory - her freakishly extra long big toe. But I'm of the belief that it's just Lara's kooky way... I need not remind you of her ballerina get-up at the 2003 Golden Globe Awards. Deary me.

Irregular Choice opens first UK store on Carnaby Street

irregularchoice_storeopeninguk.jpgHere at Shoewawa, we are massive fans of Irregular Choice. So that's why we nearly passed out when we got an email to say that they are opening their first UK store in Carnaby Street - next Thursday!

That's right, as of 30th October there will be an store entirely devoted to Irregular Choice shoes... hurrah! I'm not sure about you, but if that isn't enough of an incentive to get down to Carnaby Street then I don't know what is. The brand new 850sq ft space has been kitted out Las Vegas style, featuring disco mirrored walls, candy coloured carpets and even a yellow brick road.

Not only that for the first time, the store will boast three of the exclusive styles that they created for three of Heatherette's catwalk shows in New York.

harveynichols_reopensshoedept.jpg

This has to be the best news that I have caught wind of in quite a while. The shoe department at Harvey Nichols has had a facelift and is now reopened to the public! Since flinging open its doors, shoe lovers have been queuing up and on the phone, ready to get their mitts on the latest season's goodies. According to those in-the-know, some of the best-sellers to fly off the shelves include Camilla Skovgaard's gold gladiator sandals, and Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B 'Camden' fringed bootie which are already on back-order due to popular demand. So, what are you waiting for?

Sigerson Morrison on why they became shoe designers...

sigersonmorrison_interviewinformer.jpgAhead of their diffusion collection landing at Target, shoe design gurus, Sigerson Morrison caught up with The Fashion Informer for a chat. Asked when did they first realise that they wanted to be designers, they replied:

Sigerson: I was 14, living in Omaha, Nebraska, and my Dad sent me a course catalogue for classes at FIT. I think I thought there was something exotic about shoe design. Clothing was relatively easy to understand how they were made and put together, but shoes??!! Shoes were a mystery; only the coolest people knew how shoes were made!

Morrison: In my early twenties, when it finally occurred to me that a painter/inventor might actually be called a designer. Shoes are perhaps the ultimate Man-Product love affair, which is part of why they are so gratifying to design. Read the full interview here.

Would you get Botox in your feet to wear high heels?

botoxinjections_feet.jpgWith the trend towards extreme high heels continuing to rise, a disturbing new phenomenon is emerging to help women overcome the pain of skyscraper heels, wait for it... Botox injections in their feet.

Yes, really. According to fresh news reports, surgeons are administering Botox injections in patient's feet to allow them to wear up to 8-inch stilettos.

"I think the fact that women are wearing 5-inch heels, 6-inch, all the way up to 8-inch heels this season is ridiculous," said podiatric surgeon, Dr. Suzanne Levine. "Women will now have more problems with lower back pain, pain up the leg, the knee".

So would you consider Botox injections in your feet? Vote in our reader poll, after the jump...

Marc Jacob explains why he wears high heels...

marcjacobs_quotehighheels.jpgWe all know that Marc Jacobs has a penchant for wearing skirts, but high heels too? The designer recently wore a pair of Rick Owens's stacked heels at the Louis Vuitton S/S '09 show (pictured right). He offers an explanation:

"I don't always wear high heels. I always get nuts when women go, 'Oh, men don't know what it's like - women in heels, women in skirts, women in dresses - what it's like to suffer for fashion."

"Although I've always wanted to be taller, which is the real reason I wore them, I also thought I can show that I, too, will suffer for fashion."

Ah, MJ... how I adore you *bends down to worship*.
