Hello shoe fiends, fans, haters, random surfers, googlers and stalkers*,
Next Monday I'll be jumping on a plane and disappearing off on holiday for just over two weeks. I tell you this not because I think you care about the goings on in my life, but because it may mean a slightly quieter Shoewawa while I'm gone. Hopefully the others will pick up my slack, but there are only so many hours in the day. As you probably know, it takes a team of shoe fans - some of them stiletto hounds, others flattie fans, some high street inspired, some designer whores - to put together this site. With at least ten updates a day from across the world, a lot of work goes into bringing you what I hope is a good mix of content to suit every taste. You might love the celeb shoes, you might be more of a fan of Ugly Shoe Of The Week. Maybe you come here because you like to drool over designer shoes, or perhaps you just like to see what awful shoes writer X has decided to rave about this week...

I love couture shoes just as much as ready to wear designer pieces and shoes on the high street, and Gil Carvalho has taken it to a whole new level. He's designed a new range of shoes named "Visionary" which are conceptual and are based on style over function. To quote the shoe master himself, "the conceptual collection lets me play and explore”.
Carry on reading for more about the ideas behind 'Visionary', pictures of the crazy maisie shoes, and info on the man himself!

I know it may be hard to believe, but there are actually other things out there besides shoes that are worth looking at on the internet. When I'm not rambling about stiletto heels I contribute to some other Shiny Blogs which you ladies (and gents) might like. First up is Crafty Crafty, the place to go for craft geekery ahoy; knitting, crochet, papercraft, sewing...even making things out of food. It's actually far more interesting reading than you'd think, and I'm already hooked.
Also coming along nicely is Shiny's column-ridden girlfest, Dollymix. Think of it as a funny, irreverent alternative to glossy magazines, with fewer fashion spreads and more jokes, swear words and stuff about truly inspirational women. Oh, and me talking about fake tan, moisturiser and why all women seem to hate each other. How could you not love it?
Over on our sister blog Catwalk Queen, resident Fashion Misfit Diane has written a great column about shoes. It's definitely worth a read if you look at all the delicious looking heels on this site but can never bring yourself to actually deal with the pain of wearing them. You're obviously not alone...

Today marks fifty years since Coco Chanel created the first Chanel shoes! Just two years after launching her quilted handbag, Chanel broke tradition with the two-tone shoe. Legend has it that the style occured so that she could gallivant around without visibly dirtying her shoes. She declared, "A woman with good shoes is never ugly." To celebrate fifty years, Chanel have re-released these two-tone shoes which are available from Chanel stockists. See after the jump for Topshops more affordable version...

One of the best things about working for a blog network is having the opportunity to work with so many talented writers with such diverse interests. From gadget geeks to fashionistas, we all have something to say, so the launch of Dollymix is great news. It's the first blog of its kind for Shiny Media; a column-lead, personality-based intelligent women's blog staffed by most of our female writers. If you're fed up of women's magazines that gloss things up, patronise at every given opportunity and take themselves far too seriously, this is our alternative. Mixing current affairs with opinion pieces and specialist columns (parenting, female icons, smart beauty etc) it's a great way to interact with us, have your say on things that matter to modern women and get to know our girls a bit better!

I know some of you have had problems over the last month or so trying to comment on Shoewawa. It was an ongoing problem we've been trying out best to fix without subjecting you to piles of spam, but finally we've given in and taken off those annoying confirmation codes. Those of you who gave up leaving comments because of these issues, please come back to us! We miss your thoughts, your Yay or Nay votes and most of all we miss it when you disagree with us!
