Having seen a pair of seamed stockings 'in action' this weekend, my interest was piqued once again in the style that adds an extra note of raunchiness to whatever else you happen to have on at the time.
There seem to be some interesting variations on this look (which is lucky, as I thought it had probably been done to death what with all that burlesque stuff we're now seriously bored with) and I like this style which has miniature roses making up the all-important stocking line.

You have to be a bit philosophical around this time of year. Yes, it's about to get cold and miserable, but one of the (admittedly small) comforts we have to get us through it are tights: beautiful, artfully decorated, eyecatching tights. And this year, they're more highly embellished and interesting than ever!
Gal Stern is responsible for some of the hippest and most daring closely-fitted bodywear out there at the moment, and her tights are second to none. I love the rhinestone-embellished pair about (£30 at No One) but am also drooling over her fishscale design below, available through her site.

There are some really luscious shades of deep plum and berry to be found in the hosiery counter at the moment and when paired with some of our favourite footwear for the season, they really make a statement. Pictured here from top left, clockwise are:

Can't afford a pair of killer thingh-length boots? I probably ought to have started with another opener as some of Black Milk's incredible leg...pieces DO cost as much as a pair of boots. But the effects that their leggings (if you can belittle them by calling them that) create are so striking that they're certainly worth a look.
The lace-up pair on the left is particularly striking and was dreamt up by Queen Michelle of Kingdom of Style, shown modelling them here. Inspired by Ann Demeulemeester boots, they look incredible when worn with a pair of platform boots - transforming them into instant thigh-highs! I can see this being a trend that will grow and grow, expanding our wardrobes overnight. Bring it on! Shown right are the 'Gold Spartans' priced at $80. Find more styles at Black Milk.

There's a big trend for geometric jewellery going on at the moment and Balenciaga et. al have made it a big trend in footwear, too. But did you know that the trend had reached your sock drawer, too?
These wonderful, tessalated pattern socks in three cheery colour palates make a welcome change from spots and stripes, and are available at Barney's New York for $42

If you haven't succumbed already (I have) it'll soon be tights season once again, and time to re-visit your hosiery drawer. The odds are its contents will be looking a bit worn and ragged after a season of neglect, but fear not: tights are going to be huge in the Autumn when we're all wearing ankle boots, and Henry Holland is among the designers making legwear a priority.
His hosiery range will hit the shop shelves tomorrow, featuring sheer and opaque fabrics combined in quirky designs in a vibrant colour palette of fuschia, lilac and turquoise as well as classic black - all with House of Holland's signature cool boldness.

We've reached that time of the year when leg wear dilemmas abound. It's still too cold for bare legs, but it feels too Spring like for opaques, and sheer, nude tights don't always appeal. Jonathan Aston, though: as a solution: these sheer tights are nude in colour, but they manage to escape any charges of "mumsiness" (is that even a word?) with the addition of the butterflies, which are designed to look like they're "tattooed" onto your legs.
Personally, this isn't a look I'd go for, but if you've always wanted a tattoo, but have hesitated to get the real thing, they could be an easy compromise. They're £9.5 from Asos.
