Did you know that shoes can be used as a serious weapon, capable of taking out a world leader? Nope, neither did I. That is, until I came across this footage in my morning newsfeed. During a surprise visit to Iraq, President George Bush met with an irate journalist who decided to take off his shoes and hurtle them at him at a press conference. The unbelievable video shows President Bush ducking for cover not once, but twice, just narrowly missing the shoes. Talk about good reflexes! If you haven't seen this yet, then it is a must (and no, it's not a joke either). Just as well the reporter wasn't a woman who might have been wearing heels. Ouch!
Shoe master, Kenneth Cole, has participated in The New York Times's new video series aptly named, Conversations. In the brief clip, we hear Cole talk about what its like to influence the way people feel when they wear one of his designs. He also discusses the role that the internet now plays in his life and in his business. Interesting stuff. Click play above to watch.
For some light but informative Friday afternoon relief watch this video that takes us to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. When we saw this interview with Manolo Blahnik, we knew we had to share it with the Shoewawa girls! The designer talks about the basics he's been making forever as well as which collections he finds most enjoyable to create.
At the end, of course, you can browse his beautiful shoes!
It's pretty much general knowledge around Shiny Towers that Kiss and Makeup's Zara is a huge fan of Steve Madden shoes. Both she and fashion ed Gemma have even been known to come back from the States with suitcases full of the shoes after going on a massive shopping binge!
If you look beyond some of the *ahem* questionable copycat designs that crop up from time to time, there are many desirable pairs of shoes to own at cheap and cheerful prices.
That said, are we all in agreeance on the desirability of this particular pair of ruffle heels? Zara and I both think they're hot - but how about you? Vote in our poll beneath the jump...
A couple of weeks ago Manolo Blahnik was inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style for his achievements in luxury shoe design. Many celebs came out to pay tribute Blahnik including Hilary Duff, Lucy Liu, and Nicky Hilton. They were asked to remember their very first Manolo purchase (an anecdote I'm sure we could all tell *wink*). As for the man himself, he admitted to being 'overwhelmed, but very honoured'. I wonder if he thanked Patricia Field and the SATC wardrobe department in his acceptance speech. Click play above to watch the video.
