Topshop's side bow shoes (£50) look wonderfully vintage, I can hardly believe they're new. The colour and piped bow remind me of the kind of shoes worn in Agatha Christie mysteries. They would look great with a pencil skirt for a retro outfit or show the red colour off with some skinny jeans and a pussy bow blouse. The perfect relaxed look for a hot date!

These three-stripe shoes are just crying out to be teamed with a pair of grey opaques and a leather skirt for an '80s-tastic look. I love the combo of black, grey and burgundy: it's eye catching and the court heel adds to the '80s feel. They're Spanish-made which means quality. Snap up these shoes on Etsy for the bargain price of $25.

Sandals aren't just for summer anymore, all you need is a thick pair of woolly tights or some bright opaques and you can carry on wearing your open toed shoes well into the winter. So if you've got a fab pair of shoes like these in your wardrobe bring 'em out and you'll be wearing a little piece of summer all winter long. Peppermint Vintage's sandals are a US size 7 (UK size 5) and are a wallet pleasing $14 so if you have the winter blues snap these up to add a cheery dose of colour to your wardrobe.
A word of caution, trim your toenails before you proceed, a big toe poking out of holey tights is not a good look!

A good pair of flats is an undervalued wardrobe essential, forget heels (only for a minute!) the right pair of flats will add immeasurable chic to your wardrobe. I love the Sam & Libby pair from Drop Your Drawers Vintage ($14.99), the oversized bow adds a bit of interest to your average ballet flat. The lovely Meg Hayes at DYD also has these flats in a soft pink colour and an ivory tone so if lime's a bit much for you then have a gander at those.

Genuine '40s shoes are pretty hard to come by but
these chunky black heels cost only $25 and are gorgeously retro. They are made of a soft suedey fabric and have cutouts on the toe and scalloped edges. Perfect for an 'Atonement' inspired '40s outfit and worn with a printed tea dress and waved hair you'll ooze glamour. Alternatively you could team the outfit with some grey tight and a simple shift dress to show off the shoes to the max.
