There's nothing quite like the sight of a basic, pretty wedge heel that makes me feel truly summery and in the mood for garden parties, beach going and picnic dates in the park. These Pascal ones by Moda In Pelle are right on the mark in terms of conjuring up all that imagery and I picture myself in the middle of these little daydreams, wearing something pretty and girly and floaty, with, of course, the wedges in question on my feet.
They're available in beige, pink and navy suede for £60 from Moda In Pelle.
So nautical is back in vogue for this summer, just like it was last summer, and the one before it...
If you want a way to channel it without going down the obvious anchor print and stripes route, these wedges from Dolce and Gabbana would be perfect.
Understatedly sea-themed, the front is made of natural white rope and is pulled into a t bar strap, while the 4 inch wedge heel has a rope finish. Get them from Farfetch for £314.
You'll be sure to have a few jaws dropping as you don these Margiela wedge heel mules and create an optical illusion of sorts with your half invisible shoe. The transparent acrylic wedge heel means your foot will look like it's floating (or that you're walking around on your tippy toes all day), when in reality - haha, fooled you - it's actually comfortably resting. Well, as comfy as any foot in heels can be, anyway.
I'm not usually one for the quirky shoes, but I can actually imagine myself wearing these - is it because of the pretty shades of pink and lilac? They've currently got 50% off their pricetag at Farfetch and are going for £209.
They're a beautiful pair of wedges, there's no denying that. But look closely at those soles and what do you see? I see old wicker chairs, and a 'home furnishing' quality that I'm not sure I'd want in my living room - let alone on my feet. But what do you think: do these shoes say styish summer shoe or '70s Habitat to you?
Heading into summer, you will not believe how challenging it is to find a pair of summery shoes which are airy and pretty but which also have some kind of height booster (aka 'a heel') but aren't too high, are comfy enough to do all the usual activities you'd do in your flat sandals and which don't give you ruddy big blisters from the hot feet + leather strap equation.
You'd think that with my job being to look at shoes all day, it would make this task a little easier, but guess what? It just makes me frustrated at how few shoes there are which fit this description! Lucky then, that I came across these Tsumori Chisato espadrilles today, just when I was about to give up all hope... They're pretty and bright, they look uber comfortable and they're only £89 from Farfetch.
Over at Domestic Sluttery, they were dropping hints that they might have found the best pair of shoes in the world earlier today, so naturally I had to have a look. And these were what I found: they're comic book wedges by quirky designer Angeline Tournier. They're certainly a lot of fun, and have a geek-chic DIY feel about them. If silver's not your colour, I'm quite a fan of the red version of this shoe, and for a very '2009' look, you can go for a style with studs.
I don't own a pair of Keds or even a pair of plimsoles (or plimmies, as I like to call them), but that doesn't stop me from being able to appreciate the comfort factor of these shoes. The truth is, I don't really *do* casual (unless it's my trusty Havaianas) - and my definition of casual usually needs to have some sort of heel attached... ah, the pitfalls of being "petite".
However, when I saw these wedge pumps, I had this weird feeling of being drawn to them. Yes, me, to a pair of casual shoes! I could instantly imagine them with a pair of high-waisted denim shorts and a nautical-inspired blue and white striped crop top, some red nailpolish and plenty of summer good times. Not bad for £16 eh? They're from Debenhams.
