Gianmarco Lorenzi wooden wedges with holes

gianmarco-lorenzi.jpg"Holy" shoes! Or rather "holey" shoes. However you want to spell it, I suspect that's what people will be thinking when they first set eyes on these Gianmarco Lorenzi wedge sandals. These are £200 at Yoox.com. and are definitely different, with the holes in the sole being the thing that will immediately draw the eye. With that said, they're not too unusual to wear casually, and as an added bonus, when you take them off, you can always use the holes to hang them up!

Diane von Furstenberg Milano black suede low wedges

dvf_milano_flats.jpg

Your toes might curl up and head further inside the snuggly socks you're wearing upon spying these low wedges by Diane von Furstenberg. They won't recoil in horror because the shoes aren't pretty to look at (they very much are). But because looking at summer shoes while the snow falls outside, seems all sorts of wrong.

To me though, they symbolise all the good times I'm going to have (while wearing them of course), throughout the summer. I think the subtle rise on the wedge heel means they'll be comfy while giving me those precious few extra centimetres I need, plus how could you not love those cutouts which will flash just the right amount of skin. Tres chic. They are on sale at Bluefly for $128.34 which is very reasonable indeed.

Stella McCartney solid beige wedge heel

mcartney-solidwedge.jpg Solid wedge heels often scare me, just because the heel is one big block with no sexy sleek heel. These Stella McCartney solid beige wedge heels have been given a feeling of air with the elacticised straps and t-bar detail leading down to a peep toe. They're certainly not hard on the eye thanks to the light beige colour with the faux leather and strap detail contrasting nicely against each other. I must admit for a solid wedge sandal, these wouldn't look half bad on.

ASOS Premium cross front wedge sandals

asos_premium_crossfront_san.jpg

Nicholas Kirkwood, bless him and his shoe-designing genius, might have pronounced the death of the skyscraper heel but I think (and hope) we still have a little while longer to wear some extreme shoes.

These wedge sandals by ASOS Premium aren't nearly as high as Kirkwood's deadly 6-inch heel runway creations, but are still dramatic (and high) enough to be a nice compromise. The grey (pictured) is a great light shade for summer, but they're also available in black for something which might be more versatile. They're £69 from ASOS.

Barratts transit canvas wedge with bow trim

transit_canvaswedgewithbowtrim.jpgThe trainer-style heels were a big hit on the catwalks last season, and whether you like them or not they are still filtering down onto the High Street.

I'm not sure if I like these canvas wedges from Barratts, but they certainly have sparked my interest. For £25 you can't really go wrong. And with a pair of knee high socks, I think they would really work well with the right outfit.

Green Marley wedges from Bakers

marley-wwwedges.jpgGreen is another colour we're going to be seeing a lot of this Spring, and I couldn't be happier about it because, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I can get a little over-enthusiastic about green if I'm not careful! The key to wearing green without looking like a leprechaun is to wear it in small doses, so shoes are perfect. As for these 'Marley' wedges from Bakers, the style is a little on the chunky side for me, but I do like the colour, and think they might just work with a suitably summery dress. They're also available in black, brown and yellow.
