Wellington boots have certainly made a fashionable comeback over the last few years - prior to that, you were hard pressed to find anything other than the old faithful green and black ones! We've already shown you the first batch of Woodland Trust wellies back in May (see related links), and now Dorothy Perkins have been kind enough to produce two new styles in rich autumnal colours! Costing just £20, a whole £5 from the sale of each pair goes straight to the Woodland Trust, which is enough money to plant a new tree in the UK! It's not often that your shoes can be quite as magical as that!

As wellies go, these Burberry ones are very nice, and the studded buckle detail is cute, but still - £175 for a pair of rubber boots? I think I'll have to pass, even although they are Burberry, with the famous Burberry check lining to prove it. Of course, if I was a rich landowner and spend all my days tramping around in muddy fields, perhaps I'd reconsider, but then again, one rubber boot looks very much like another rubber boots when you're up to your ankles in mud, so I think I'd possibly still pass even then. What about you? Would you pay this much for wellies?

There's no doubt that wellies are great at keeping your feet dry, but as anyone who's spent a few hours out in the rain in them will testify, they're not always great at keeping your feet warm. Hunter Boots have come to the rescue, though, with these red fleece "Welly Warmers" which are designed to fit inside the boots and keep your tootsies toasty. Of course, a few pairs of thick socks will do the same job, but for £30 you can also buy a dedicated "Welly Warmer".

We've featured lots of weird and wonderful Wellington boots here at Shoewawa over the years, but I think these may just be the first wedge heeled wellies I've come across! Actually, I think they're possibly the prettiest wellies I've seen too, with their floral design, and at least the wedge is small enough not to really be noticeable! They're £40, which seems like a lot to pay for a pair of rain boots to me, but if you live somewhere very rainy they could be a sound investment. They're also available in black and blue floral and polka dot designs.

'm rarely attracted to wellies, but these I'll have to make a special exception for. I'm quite taken by the bursts of red petals on the off-white background, which is somehow kept from being too messy by a neat black and white striping effect at the soles. An extremely practical buckle at the top of the boot allows easy adjustment to calf-size fits, and looks quite smart, too! Waterproof, of course, just in time for some rainy weather dregs, even in sunny California. US$125 for the kate spade 'Riley' red daisy boot.

If I’m going to have to buy a pair of wellies this year (which I strongly suspect I will) then it’s going to be a posh pair. No cheap wellies for this shoe lover! This nice understated pair is from Marc by Marc Jacobs, and though I’m attracted to pink boots with hearts (or similar) I think I’m grown up enough for something plain. The colour is fog and they cost US$190.

I'd love for wellingtons to be only necessary in festival season, but I've just looked outside my window and it is quite frankly bordering on torrential out there. While the lumpen garden green welly isn't exactly what you want to be seen in on the high street, there are alternatives.
I never thought I'd see a designer 'rain boot' in my life, but these Tory Burch Winnie boots have proven me wrong on that. The patent banding and logo give these a little edge of style to say "I have to keep the rain out, but I don't have to look like a garden gnome". They're available from Shopbop for $295. Perhaps a little bit too much to splash out (sorry) on rain wear for some, but then I do live in Manchester...
